OK having broken the left front indicator last week I picked up a set of 2nd hand minis off here for a tenner. (Just realised my title may be misleading, the ones on the bike atm are the original factory indicators, its the ones I want to replace them with that are aftermarket!)
I though having had a look at how they fit it would be a simple 15-20 minute job to exchange them out. I thought it would just be unscrew the bolt holding the original in, screw the new one, and unclip the old ones connector and clip the news one. It was bloody hard to get to the bolt holding the originals on so I took the black plastic part of the fairing off the front underneath and that gave me a lot more space. I've attached a few photos, (sorry they're pretty big I would have resized them but wasnt sure how) of the indicators I've got. Each one has two wires coming off it (one a blue and black, the other a brown and black) and there were 2 other wires supplied each with two connectors going into a single connector. This single connector looks like the one that plugs into the connector currently on the bike. But I'm not sure which wire from the indicator plugs into which one of the 2 connectors on the 2 into 1 wire. ![]() ![]() Then when I've been trying to take the old ones off, have had no problem unscrewing the indicator attachment, but the electrical connector (which I've taken a picture of) doesnt pull apart, am I doing something wrong here? Is this the wrong connector, should i be twisting and pulling or flicking a clip on it and pulling or something, should it come part easily? The connector looks the same type, but different ages on each side of the front (they're different colours) suggesting someone has changed one of them in the past. ![]() Finally the last photo, shows the old plate in the indicator space (from the inside), the old wires go through one hole and the screw the other, (the new ones I've got have a slightly larger screw and bolt than this. The new indicators the screw and wires both come off the one point, rather than two seperate points with 2 holes to go through, so I was thinking I could just route the screw and bolt through the wire hole on the left, or do I need a new spacer plate? ![]() Or have I got the wrong type of indicators completely? (I think they came off a curvy, but was told that they should fit a 2003 pointy no problem without the need to change spacers or anything like that) Any help/guidance is much appreciated! Thanks, that advice is really useful.
Having followed your advice I have realised that the original connector in grey is not the same style as the connector I've been given with them. The one that was on the bike is the grey more triangular one, the one I've got with the new indicators is a black more square one. So the new ones aren't going to fit the current connector onto the loom, hmmm, any ideas where I can get hold of the right connector? ![]() ![]() |

Yeah I think that I'm just going to cut them for now, so I can reuse the old connector, part of me just wants it to all be as uncomplicated as possible, but I've found where spare connectors on ebay so when I put the LEDs on in the next couple of months I'll probably just pick up a couple of those to clean it up a bit, its only a fiver for 2. I also have to hacksaw a bit of plastic off the little spacer plate that goes in the gap in the fairing so that the bolt for these new ones will fit through, it fits through the hole the wires went through before, but theres a bit of plastic in the way of the hole on the plate, but should come off and then fit no problem. Thanks for the help guys, should work out ok now, I hope! Last edited by skithepowder; 02-11-10 at 07:15 PM. |

Yeah I have a thread from a few days ago saved where someone pointed me in the direction of an old thread with instructions of how to fit/wire the relay. So when I get round to doing that I'll be following those instructions, strangely enough saw some bike led relays in halfords today, they had kawasaki, honda and yamaha led indicator relays but no suzuki one, maybe they were just out of stock of suzuki though, I only saw them in passing.
Cheers guys. |
