Just wondering if theres something up (I think there is) or whether its a common quirk.
Since its been really cold the rad fan is on when you turn on the ignition and stays on until the engine warms up slightly (couple of minutes riding), then goes off and doesnt come on again until the engine is really hot (as it should). If its an issue I'll just replace the fan switch. |

Sounds like a short.
I'd swap the switch and see what happens

Pull the connector off of the switch, the inch wide brass hexagon on the back of the radiator, does this stop the fan running? If yes, then the switch is duff.
If no then the wiring around the switch area should be checked first.

Solved today. After finding in the summer that the rad fan wasn't even plugged in, I found out that some numpty (presumably the same one who left the fan unplugged...) had plugged the fan temp sensor into the carb heaters and the air temp sensor into the fan. So the fan was on when cold and the carb heaters didnt work.
Hence the fan being on when its cold and it running rough too. All sorted now... |
