Well got in the car, started it. Shoved it in reverse gear and something definitely wrong as I pull out of the parking space.
So put in in first and it is going nowhere, struggling to rev upto 1000 rpm. Called the help line who took ages to answer, well maybe a minute. Gave them the detail as 10 minutes later he is here. What's up, told him. And when did you last put fuel in. About 150 miles ago. OK we need to ask. So he tries to rev it and it wont go more than 1000. Pulls the cover off the engine, takes out a big screwdriver and held of the blade he taps the EGR valve a couple of times. Try that. Perfect. Cover on, bonnet down, A quick check of his EODB system no faults detected. follows me home. I cannot praise him enough. He had obviously seen it before and 20 minutes after the car refusing to run properly I am home. Glad this car is going, it has been a right Jonah.

I was wondering because if it is an older (not neccessarily old) car that isn't COMPLETLEY controlled by a computer then just get rid of the EGR.

they things are a pain in the a$$-i'm getting rid of the landys one this week and the zafiras one has played up before, just a quick clean and then its ok-if you get rid of yours keep it in the garage as there's been talk that if your car was fitted with one when it left the factory come mot time in the future there gonna be looking for it.

On my old escort it was re-fitted with a 1mm steel plate between the gasket and EGR valve, sneaky but effective

I've had the **** taken by the RAC a few times so I was dreading calling out the AA when my Focus decided to start cutting out on the M6... Guy was absolutely brilliant. I only had roadside recovery, ie no relay- just tow to the nearest garage- so he absolutely bust a gut trying to fix it, which he did... And considering the local ford dealership offered to charge me £90 for a fault-code read, the fact that I got 2 as part of the callout (one that got millions of results, which he cleared, then followed me around til I broke down again) was pretty nice too. Great stuff.
Also only cost me £9 for the year! Topcashback discount...

Out of the AA and RAC, i would recomend the AA any time. RAC have caused me more grief than the AA have at anytime.
