Default Saving DVDs to an ipod classic

I bought Mr LPH a 160g ipod classic for crimbo. He mostly wants to use it for his music but as Thai Airways have no real in flight entertainment we thought we could load a few movies onto it for our trip to Thailand in a few weeks. However, I can't work out how to do this and the manual doesn't really help other than to try and persuade you to purchase stuff through i-tunes.

Can anyone advise on an easy way to get some entertainment from our pre-existing DVD collection via our laptop onto the ipod?

LPH yes, but most of them require a licence key.

Xillisoft is good but is $30

Realplayer convertor does alot of formats to ipod but takes a while

As above, you'll need some software to do it. I use some software called

Cucusoft DVD to Ipod Converter, just stick the DVD in your PC / laptop open it up with the software and it'll create an MP4 file which you then import into your itunes library and it'll synch across to the Ipod.

Beware though, the Ipod classic isnt the best thing to watch films on the screen isnt that brilliant and sometimes mine is a little jerky on playback.

Whole thread on ripping DVD's to PC

http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=160921

Speedplays suggestion of Winx DVD is free, rips them to many formats incl Mp4 which Fizz suggested

You can specify the frame size to suit your Ipod I think

http://www.winxdvd.com/dvd-ripper/

I ripped a couple of DVD's as FLV format and file size was 300mb for the full movie. 1.5 gb for Avi format

Still messing about with it, but its easier than most to use
