Default Bike running rough!

Bike ran like a pig this morning, was trying to cut out at idle after 20 mins riding, i could smell petrol and bike was backfiring a lot? Opening the throttle quickley, the bike just cuts out but roll it on smoothly it picks up?serviced the bike at the begining of week and it was running great, ive added carb balance lines and balanced carbs ( blocked the ends of afterwards ) and recentley greased up the carb plungers. I also checked airbox and connections for leaks but found nothing!

Can anyone help? Bike is doing my head in!!!! >:-/

Sounds like it's only running on one cylinder, you can smell unburned petrol. I would start off by changing the spark plugs. Or check and clean first. When you say you serviced it, did you fit new plugs? if so, unlikely that one has failed already, if you kept the old ones you can fit them back in to test. Sometimes plugs work, then fail as they get hot.

Both HT leads seated properly? Front plug damp? Choke cables not stuck when you put them back in (seated properly in nipple)?

What YC says.

Is it chokie (lumpy) or just like firing on one cylinder? I would check the plungers, plugs or leads have not come loose.

Could be rain affected. My SV was doing this in, what I thought, was not too much rain. Lucky I serviced the bike a few days after and fitted a fenda extenda also. I made sure that the front plug lead had a good coating of 3 in 1 silicone to stop any damp getting between the rocker cover, lead and plug top. Rode the bike on Tuesday through rain, sleet and snow and not a problem.

I did change the plugs for new uns, i set the gap to 0.08 like an idiot ( i know its 0.7 - 0.8 now ) and the bike ran like **** so i had em out and adjusted them to 0.8 and it ran a lot better until now. Maybe running the plugs at 0.08 has buggered them up?

the carb heaters aren't that effective, try a fuel additive like wynn's dry fuel or silkolene pro fst.

Have a look at the idle adjuster, you may have nocked it.

I'm with YC sounds like something is loose or wet.
What states the battery in? Mine did v strange things before it waved the white flag and died
