I want to glue some strips of velcro onto the outside of my motocross helmet so I can make some easy off goggle straps, bit like:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWAX:IT Any idea what is safe to use on the outside of a helmet these days? |

Should by some of the sticky pads that the go pro mount uses to attach to helmets, both safe and strong.
Im pretty sure youd be able to stick some velcro on the other side provided they are double sided glued. Last edited by mcgrimes; 15-01-11 at 03:27 PM. |

I have used waterproof extra strength velcro, its been on my helmet 6 months, its not budged, and it looks as strong as the day i put it on (no glue required other than the stuff on it already). They sell it in hobbcraft.
Its also holding heated grips controller to a mates bike, and my recifier to the frame, ive used it bloody everywhere lol. Last edited by beabert; 15-01-11 at 03:51 PM. |

The standard velcro sicky just comes off under tension in the wet.
Waterproof extra strong velcro sounds interesting, I've bought these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3M-DUAL-LOCK-H...item3a540d0568 which are completely useless, do you mean something like this?: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VELCRO-Heavy-D...item35aef01492 |

The heavy duty extra strong water resistant thick strips i used. You need to leave it to set, so read the instructions before using. Your nearest hobbycraft is: Next to Haskins Garden Centre Gaters Hill, Mansbridge Road West End Southampton Hampshire SO18 3HW So go and have a look before buying. |

Thanks for that, its easy enough just to order from the link you provided. Have you used it for the same purpose, or something else, like cameras?

Failing all that, get a tube of clear silicone that suitable for outdoor use, general purpose decent quality stuff, that stuff when set is like sh1te to a blanket.
I use clear silicone for loads of stuff as it's really strong as well. |
