What's a Commercial Manager?

Had a call from an Agency earlier asking if I'd be interested in a position as Commercial Manager. The company they are acting for has set up a new Service organisation, and they need someone to work with their Service Manager to improve the image of the organisation with many customers who've got a negative view of the company.

Do I get to wear a clown's suit? Just what is a Comm Mgr and what do they do?

In our company they are essentially just a QS if they are based on site.

The office based ones are responsible for the budget and funding for the entire project.

So I would say the title is wide ranging, can you not just ask the Agency for the job profile?

The role can vary depending on industry and company.

I did find this pretty good explanation though:-

They're are emailing it thro', along with the company profile and direction the company wants to take.

It's an advertising role - ie, managing commercials.

call me the ultimute sinic and dont take anything away from you, as im aware you are very good at what you do. but do you know this agency, how do they know of you, have you dealt with them before etc etc
its just ive heard of allot of job scams going round atm

I would say in my industry (construction) a commercial manager is a managing quantity surveyor in a reasonably high position. they would be in charge of senior surveyors and qs/assistants etc.... they would have to decifer the qs reports and such like. if it's for a construction company I would say you'd need a back ground of quantity surveying for the role

I know the agency well, and have done a fair bit of business with them. The Company that's hiring I also know fairly well, and they are a blue chip multi-national, and I know there Service Mgr well having worked a lot with him in the past.

And I could do with a driver but I'm worried about your record for staying on the road
