Right, i need to take my carbs apart and clean them out due to the bike been sat for a month or so over winter, Problem at the moment is that it idles like crap off choke, but rides well. Pulls cleanly up to high revs but a very slight misfire on a constant throttle in the midrange.
Last ride before christmas idle was perfect. I'm figuring that at least the idle jets are bunged up with crap so i'm going to strip the carbs and clean them over the weekend. Is there anything worth doing while i've got the carbs apart? Bike is running stock airfilter and the exhaust from a 2000 gsxr 1000, the titanium oem jobbie Last edited by rc mad; 13-01-11 at 08:58 PM. |

You shouldn't have this problem after only a months lay up, you're looking too deep
Drain the float bowls first, if there is any crap in the bowls, then it'll hopefully go. Check the front plug hasn't got damp through the drain hole, make sure thats clear as well, its found about mid way down the cylinder block on the right hand side.

The front plug is as dry as a bone, i will check the drain hole tho
![]() Intitally when i tried to start the bike it would not go, left it a couple of days and tried again, it started but only on full choke, it's since got a bit better after riding it today but not to where it was before christmas, i'll try draining the float bowls and see what comes out. cheers |

The usual carb problem is the choke plungers and cables. These sieze up easily. You dont need to take the carbs apart to deal with them, but the plunger screws can be a bugger to undo if they have been in a long time.

Got the carbs off yesterday, front carb was not connected to airbox or cylinder correctly, both clamps were loose
![]() The carbs do need a good clean as there is varnish everywhere. Idle jet is a 17.5 and main is 137.5, thought stock idle was 15? Also plunger screws required the use of a pair of mole grips to remove. Not good, Why do they insist on using thse type of screws ![]() A couple of o rings have perished so they are on order, otherwise it look like it just needs a clean up. |
