Hi all,
My wife, being the fantastic generous soul that she is, bought me the only speculative item on my amazon wishlist.. I'd popped it on there but didn't give it much thought, assuming no one was going to spend quite that much on me for xmas. Well now I'm the proud owner of a hydraulic jack lift thingy like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/MOTORCYCLE-M.../dp/B003JIAG7W. Which is ace... except that I'm not sure I'm going to be able to use it on the SV (curvy, S model). I haven't been able to try it yet cos of the ice, but I've had a good look around the bike and I think exhaust would be bearing the weight, which I wouldn't have thought is a good idea! Anyone got something similar and know if it can lift the SVS? If it's not going to work, I guess I can use it as the basis to build a lifting platform/workbench! |

I think it should be possible to build a plate to sit on the lift that distibutes the weight to the stronger bits - can anyone tell me which parts/areas on the underside (of the engine/that middle area) should be able to bear the weight?

Here's some plans of a bike lift, perhaps you can adapt them to suit your jack?

I was given a bike lift which needed repair by my dad for free. It used to be used to lift Harley's. A change of an oil seal later and it works perfectly. Not had cause to use it yet, but looking forward to easy life when I need to do a bit of work on the bikes. It'll lift the Exup easy and the baby Ninja even easier. I believe it has a two ton weight limit.

It is snazzy Leebex, reassuringly heavy and a smooth effortless action.. All in all a very nice bit of kit. But I suppose Beabert's suggestion is the most sensible answer. OTOH I can't afford one of those full platform things, so I think I'll persue the converion option first... Pics here if I come up with something that works!

i got one of those and a curvy
i got a piece of plywood to fit the base of it i fixed two brackets, iirc 8cm high, and 10 cm apart, that allow me to run a piece of studding through the lug on the bottom of the engine. a wooden wedge about 3" high behind that, and i clamp it to the base, couple of rachet straps. google it - i found a diagram dead easy that way. dead easy, and really good to work on the bike when it's up high |

I use one of those hydraulic lifts to get engines in and out.
So far I've not found one bike I can lift with it without making some kind of modification or adaptor, so all it gets used for is engines. |
