Default another brake seal question!!! (sorry!)

Hi again,

after sorting out my leaky clutch issue it seems one of my calipers were binding on the front. regreased the float but this didnt help or only a bit so I had to for the firs time strip the caliper. First thing I noticed was there was no dust sheild so not sure if its been done before by dodgy bobs back street garage! but suprised it hasnt gone before.

next thing I notcied is the seal was perfectly round? I thought they had to go in a certain way and one edge had a wider rim than the bottom part?
Ive sent off for the new ones but what do I do if the new ones look the same? again im thinking dodgy bob just stuck any seal he had on the shelf so hopefully the new ones will per as per spec.

Although manuals suggest he seals have a wedge profile
This is not the case.

Refresh your seals. Use Red rubber grease and give the seal recesses a good clean first

Can I just double check, red rubber grease goes on inside of caliper chambers, outside of pistons, seals, dust seal and float is that right. I got some silicone grease to after reading something but cant remember what for lol. I used to use copper grease on bake of brake pads but remember someone saying use something else??

Yes. That was Bibio. He's forgotten more about SVs than I know, so he's a bit like Moses and commandments when it comes to bikes.

hahaha cool ok.

well its all been done and I re -checked it afterwards as the disc was still getting a little warmer than the other side. I need to do a good run really. Its off for the mot on wednesday so that may show something. Im happy the pistons and float are both working fine. Im wondering maybe the disc is a little warped but a tool is like £60!

Could it just be the disc bobbins needs a good clean and freeing up a bit?

am i being thick lol, what are the disc bobbins? im going out for another spin in a second to see if its any better after a re grease of the caliper float. the pistons pump out nice and even and the float moves well so its a bit of a weird one. will give the disc a clean before going out. ill update in a bit hopefully.

Well went for a spin. Didnt use the brakes for a mile straight as I thought if they are binding the disc will be hot. Luckily they wasn't. When I did use them one disc was stone cold the other slightly warm so maybe a warped disc slightly or could it be to do with me not changing seals on both calipers? Anyways it seems OK nothing to panic about. I'll see if the garage can test for a warped disc on Wednesday
