Default Regular scraping noise from rear

Hi all,
Pushing my bike around I can hear a metallic grrrrrind noise from the rear about once every two meters. I'm thinking warped rear disc? Rear braking is fine, I use the rear a fair bit due to a lack of confident feel from the front (ten year old unfettled suspension is high on my list of priorities to sort out!) Should I be concerned or is this something I can ignore until I get around to sorting the brakes?

Ta,
D

Checked your pads recently?

As above. I had one young lad complain of a grinding noise coming from the rear of his bike. On looking inside I find the piston, yes the piston not the pad, was grinding on the disk. He had worn them down that far.

I did this on one of my Clio's...
Ended up wearing them down that badly that I had to replace the disk and caliper...
Luckily I had already written a Clio off so I just took the parts off that one!

Might be worth checking the wheel/chain adjuster marks, to make sure the back wheel is running true. Anyone adjusted the chain lately? If that were me I'd take the rear pads out, then push it, no noise means it is the brake causing the noise.

as others have said check the brakes, and +1 to mickhew, take pads out and roll bike,

hopefully it is just a bit of grit or something else in the pads,

I have the pads out now.. I see no obvious wear indicator, but there's a great hunk of material on each - assuming I'm just looking for something protruding from the metal plate, not something else on top of that? There's a good 5mm on each. They're pretty scored and had a few bits of junk in them. I can confirm that with the pads out the noise goes away. The 'inside' one was a sod to get out. I guess I'll clean them up and refit, see if the noise goes away...

Pads cleaned and reinserted, and the noise is gone Must have been some grit, or maybe that inner one that was stiff to pull out wasn't home right or something. What a fiddly job though getting all those little pins and springs back in place... next time I think I'll whip the caliper off altogether.

..I think I may have inhaled too much brake cleaner teeeehee

Have you since taken it for a run and actually used the rear brake again? Just to check the noise doesn't come back indicatiing maybe a sticking piston.
