Anyone know where I'll get a speedo sensor magnet for a Triumph? Apparently the dealers only sell a full replacement unit, not just the magnet.

Not sure if the SV one would fit a Triumph, but yes, it's the same kind of thing.
The speedo sensor at the front wheel has a cylindrical magnet inside, mine has broken apart, common Triumph fault. There's a complete speedo sensor on ebay for £50 quid, or they are £100 from a Triumph dealer, but there's nothing wrong with my speedo sensor, I only need a new magnet to go inside it. |

If you have broken the magnet you have probably over compressed the ring as well which causes the magnet to break
Tyre fitters are guilty of over tightening the front axle and this is the consequence. Get the complete unit from E-Bay and always use the torque setting when doing up the front spindle 60 Nm----45ft/lb-----6.1Kg/M Pinch bolts 20Nm-----15ft/lb-------2.0Kg/m are the settings for the ST so I would imagine the Daytona to be similar I know some people say that the torque settings on the front spindle is irrelevant but this is a perfect example of why they are wrong Last edited by Dicky Ticker; 26-03-11 at 08:44 PM. |

OK thanks Mac.
This may be a case of someone at Triumph over tightening, as the bike only has 4000 miles and is on the OEM tyres and pads, though the front wheel could have been off for some other reason in it's 4 years of life I suppose. It did take quite a bit of pressure on the breaker bar to undo the axle, I'd expect it move quite easily once the pinch bolts are undone. The calipers have to come off to get the wheel out and they were too loose IMO, moved very easily. Damn thing has a 17mm allen socket on the front and a massive 46mm single axle nut on the back (single sided swingarm). I had to go down to Halfords and spend £17 on a 17mm sump plug socket (no allen sockets that big) and a 46mm socket for the rear, just to get the wheels off. The magnet broke in use. I gave it some beans to do an overtake and pulled into petrol station shortly after, when I left the petrol station into a 30 limit, I noticed the speedo was no longer reading properly. I always consult the book and torque to the recommended settings, simply because I don't trust myself to get it right by feel alone. Last edited by -Ralph-; 27-03-11 at 07:59 AM. |

Col,I think the brake caliper mounting bolts are about 40Nm and can be easily stripped by over tightening as the fork casing is only cast ally which seems quite soft.
Should this happen you can use the helicoil kit for a Kawasaki as I did, due to having one stud that would not torque up properly due to previous owner or mechanics over exuberance In general I use the torque settings set out for everything as it is so easy to over tighten and strip the stud fixings on any aluminum engine Steel nuts and bolts are more tolerant Last edited by Dicky Ticker; 27-03-11 at 08:35 AM. |

If you come across a parts fiche for the Daytona/Speed Triple, can you grab a copy for me? Couldn't find one without paying for it and I'm a typical Scotsman in that respect ![]() The exploded diagram in the workshop manual doesn't show the magnet separately, which suggests it comes as part of the speedo sensor which will have it's own part number. I think you're right, I'll just have to buy that complete speedo sensor off ebay. ![]() |

Try T595 Net -----thats where i got the ones for the ST and just wrote them in the blank pages at the back of the owners hand book
Sold!!!!--yes it will be as it is such a common error to make when being refitted so the demand is high. Its a nose cone off job to run the cable and refit properly unless you are prepared to split it and put in a joiner Last edited by Dicky Ticker; 27-03-11 at 08:46 AM. |
