Hope you's are all well lads,
I'm thinking of fitting a 'jack up' kit to my SV650 S K2. I'm 6ft 3" and think the bike may be a bit more comfortable if he was higher. I've read different things about it on how it affects performance. I was reading there on old threads about a member who installed a 40mm kit. Have any of you got your Sv's raised? If so, could you tell me your thoughts? How high did you's lift it? Is 20mm a significant increase, or would I be best to go 40mm? Is it simple to fit, or would it need to be done under garage conditions? The last guy said he used paddock stands and a couple of mates. Is it handy enough, or is it best left alone lol? A jack up kit (shorter dogbones) will not make the bike any more comfortable - the distance from seat to pegs and bars will still be the same. You might sit at a (very) slightly different angle, but nothing you would notice.
Jackup kits increase the ride height of the back suspension to make the steering quicker and give a little more ground clearance. You wouldn't use a paddock stand as you have to dismantle the back suspension. you'd need a stand that locates in the swingarm (Abba or similar), or lean the bike on the sidestand and use the couple of mates to make sure it doesn't fall on you as you change the dogbones... |

I bought a jack up kit but purely to reverse the lowering kit that was already fitted to mine when I bought it. Basically wanted to get it as close to stock again as poss. As LiamH says it won't affect seat position but I much prefer it being jacked up (compared to how it was) as it just feels better sat at lights etc. I'm only 6' so from that point of view I guess it will be a similar change for you.
I did the job myself with the help of a couple of extra hands. I used a paddock stand but again as above you'll need some other method of lifting the weight of the bike of its rear suspension - I just used a trolley jack. Other than the linkage nuts being a right cnut to get off it was a simple enough job with the logistics of lifting the bike being the hardest part. I'd definitely recommend adjusting the front yoke accordingly though, that made a huge difference in my opinion once the bike was all evened up. Hi, I have a jack up kit fitted to my curvy (from standard) and I have found that it has made it more comfortable to ride. It took a while getting used to filtering @ slow speeds, but all is good now. I`m only 5ft 9in and found it a bit cramped on a standard set up. If the jack up kit didn`t work there is a guy on Ebay who has some reversible plates that allow you to move your foot rests / back and down slightly - but as it worked for me i never bothered with them. Oh my jack up kit was from CJ accessories (Banditrob i think on Ebay) and i got spannerman to fit them as he was doing the valve clearances on my bike.

Do it! Might as well have a go else we'll never learn anything. Worst comes to the worst you struggle and end up taking the bike to a pro to have the work done!! Sure you'll be fine though. Good luck man.
