Default Attempted theft? Or kids tea leafing?

So woke up this morning to a knock on the door. 'The garages have been broken into'

My heart pumps through my chest as I have 2 bikes in my garage but I forgot to chain the Hypermotard up. Leg it down to the block of garages to see the four garages next to mine with their doors wide open. Thankfully mine is still shut as I have much more security on the door than my neighbours who only keep crap in theirs.

Open mine up to find everything in order and as I left it...huge sigh of relief. Subsequently I found out that nothing had been stolen from my neighbours garages even though one had a few toddler bikes n an old telly in but on the other side of the street a bloke had his lawnmower nicked.

Now I wrote it off as kids being knobs and messing around but a few people have mentioned that they think they were trying to find my bikes. Now I have secured my Hypermotard with a torc ground anchor, almax chain and squire lock and anti pinch pin through the frame. So I am fairly confident they'll not get away with that in a hurry. I can't really do anything with my GSXR as I don't have anymore chains to immediate hand.

The reason I thought it was kids was that the garage doors were left open and items that were worth at least a couple of quid to a desperate thief were left. I would've thought if someone wanted to find my bikes they would've made it look like no one had been snooping and slowly figure out which garage they were in and do the job properly with the right tools instead of making it obvious someone had been breaking into them and stealing a lawn mower.

I'm going to park my car in gear in front of my garage tonight, its a semi auto so they can't just smash the window and release the handbrake as it doesn't go into neutral until the engine starts.

What do you guys think?

Thief after my bikes
or
Kids dicking around

I don't see why kids would nick a lawn mower, they are pretty boring things.

I'd say they were thieves, perhaps not after the bikes... But possibly, they obviously had a trailer or pick up to accommodate the mower.

Do you have power in the garage? Can you not rig up an alarm? Perhaps a battery alarm?

Scary stuff

Could they have been working their way along before getting scared off?

Was there any damage to any of your door locks/padlocks?

The problem is, to many locks or parking a car right in front seriously advertises that there is something worth stealing inside.

I would be setting up shotgun traps inside... Similar to what you see on farm land, except angled to cause injury. Also a loud wireless alarm, mount the box on the roof so they can't destroy it, you may even be close enough to your garage to mount it on your house, but on the roof of the garage with no way to stop it immediately would be most effective... After the shotgun traps of course.

kids want lawnmowers for the coming summer where they can make a small fortune cutting grass. and since that was the only thing taken then i would assume they have got what they wanted.

Perhaps but I can't see kids stealing a mower and walking it down the road after (kids don't drive) so they would either need help or it's older thieves.

Nah, they could have had your bikes but preferred the lawn mower, so that's what got nicked

That's why mine is right outside my window, so i can keep an eye on it. you need one of those proper garage door locks that goes into the concrete in front of the door, they were probably just having a look, blame the government for closing down the kids centers lol.

I think you are being a little naieve to think it was kids mr Speirs. Come live in chav central for a while, and you'll get why I say it.

You'd be surprised what desperate oiks will nick, even if you think its worthless. Oportunist nickers, happens quite often round here.

Gits, how dare they try and pinch frankengixxer

Sort the garage door Chris, once theyre in, its too late, they could damage the bikes trying to steal them, imo spend the money on the door security.
What doors are they?
Steel plate the inside, also there are some really good locks around for doors, the type they use for vans are good as there isnt any access for a crow bar etc.

The garage door is the weak point. I will be putting more security on it soon but can't do anything tonight or 2moro as I am not at the house.
