Hi, I'm looking at buying a pointy k6 however I only have a restricted license so 33hp
![]() I've been told by the dealer that I will require an FI International throttle restrictor Kit costing about £200. However a) from reading on here I understand people have had issues with these b) I know I can get an ECU (like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Suzuki-SV650-3...55629144746237) for much less. The only issue I have is that with the FI Kit the guy said i'd get paperwork proving that the bike was restricted. If I just fit the ECU myself I wont. Is having the paperwork, or lack of, a major issue? As far as I know it's only for if the police stop you doing insane speeds. If it is a legal requirement does anyone know how I'd go about getting it? Thanks in advance Rob |

Just get it dynoed it is not a legal requirement to have the paper work but your insurance may ask for it but pretty sure they accept the dyno print out aswell

No legal requirement for the paperwork.
FI make a big song and dance about it but they know there is no requirement they'd just rather people bought new and from them rather than s/h. Druid

when i purchased mine from a dealer in the uk, knowing it had to be restricted and not knowing too much about the restriction side of things, we came to arrangement and they fitted an FI kit before i took delivery of the bike.
i have it now about two weeks and i am on the look out for a restricted ecu for my K5. i cannot wait to get the washers etc out of the bike. i know that the bike isnt running right as a result of this kit and can feel it everytime i ride it. i cant give you any info regarding the legality of paperwork in the UK as im from ireland, but do not get an FI kit fitted. if i could "turn back time", i wouldnt have got the delaer to fit this kit. i would have gone down the road of the ecu had i known more about it. now i am going to have to pay twice for the same thing! Find a way around it and get it restricted with a restricted ecu. ![]() |

I know there is a throttle stop gizmo as with the washers for restriction. Any pics on it since i cant seem to find it.

Look on here for a S/H ECU, they go for around £50-60, much better than FI kits.
Cheaper, run better (IMO) and for changing between restricted and unrestricted, it's a 5 minute job! You don't need any documentation legally, but some insurers may ask for it. Just find an insurer that does not require paperwork, plenty going around. |

Susuki supply an official kit (ECU). This is perfectly legal and there are different part & serial numbers for the standard & restricted ECUs. So if you wanted to prove the bike was restricted you could show photos of the ECU or a dyno run.
I was never asked for proof when I had a restricted licence, though that might have changed if I'd had an off resulting in a claim ![]() Jambo

get the bike on dyno, its enough proof to show the police if you get asked
![]() i no of a bloke in east sussex who im pretty sure has a dyno now. http://www.everestmotorcycles.org.uk/ where i work we have a dyno but thats in norfolk. |

Thanks guys, I've ordered a restricted ECU, should come in a few days. When it's on I'll take it along to the local dyno and get confirmation it's doing it's job

Honestly I wouldn't even bother dynoing it, unlike with the FI kit the proof is that you have the ECU with the 'known' restricted part number.
At most I'd get a letter from Suzuki confirming that part number x is the restricted ECU. Druid
