Default Another "bought the wrong bike" thread

Well after 6 months of ownership, I think I'll be selling the Street Triple. Fantastic engine and a real road weapon on smooth tarmac but get anything which is a bit bumpy, pot holed or just poorly surfaced and the bike just bounces all over the place. I was finding fast A and B roads a real hoot but then started testing the bike over the rougher B & C roads which I love to go hunting down and the bike wasn't happy and neither was I.

I'll be honest I'm missing the Versys for its high bars and the way it soaks up the imperfections. I'm now totally undecided on what to do next and have even considered hanging up the leathers for a bit. I dont know whether to go back to the Kawasaki, risk my finances on a KTM 950SM, buy something smaller and daft like a DRZ/CCM or just take a break for a bit, buy a convertible or a camper and then come back to bikes next year. I'm a bit ****ed off that this hasnt worked out as the Triumph is a beautiful bit of kit but its not the right tool for me.

Any ideas?!

Rob, can you not twiddle the suspension a bit? Let some air out of the tyres?

Bit of time out won't hurt - go & treat yourself to a t25 or a spanking t4 conversion rob! failing that, gsxr 750 is the answer to all questions

I find the street a little firm but dropping the compression and rebound damping has taken the worst out of it. Don't give up on it yet...

I've dropped tyre pressures to Dunlop's recommended 33-36 instead of 36-42 as recommended by Triumph. At their pressures, I was locking the rear wheel up (with standard suspension settings) and lighting it up in the wet!

Since dropping it, it has made it much more compliant on the smoother stuff and also with dropping compression and rebound front and rear by 1 setting (I tried 2 but it encouraged the bike to yo-yo a bit too much) its smoother it out further but it still kicks a fair bit over bumps and I'm backing right off when the roads become a little bumpy whereas before I was used to just riding over them.

Is that the standard triple you have? Or the R version?

He's got a R the right one of the two to get...

I've dropped mine 3 clicks on both compression and rebound (must admit I haven't really pushed on since I've done it, I've been riding 2 up) but the ride seems decent to me... But then your coming off a big soft toy to this it'll be quite a change...

Before committing to changing it, why don't you spend £40 or so and get the suspension set up by an expert, might just be that.

Shame, cos that bike looks the nuts

That is EXACTLY how I feel and where I am at right now... And it feels pretty crap. I don't want to make the same mistake again and loose another wad of cash so at the moment I'm thinking I just won't bother.
