Default Know of any jobs in the Newcastle area...

Hi. I'm beginning to get a bit fed up now. I decided not to go for a job whilst in college so that I could concentrate on my college work. Since finishing college last June/July I have been without anything to do.

I didnt look fora job straight away as I was moving up to Newcastle, from Devon, end of July. I decided to get settled in before looking for potential jobs and get to know my family a bit more as I have rarely seen my cousins, granparents etc.

I started looking for a Job October/November time by handing in CVs to various shops to try a get something going. After having no luck there, I signed up to Reed.co.uk and posted my CV up there along with some other details hoping that something would turn up. Shortly after I start recieving e-mails about potential jobs, however they were all mainly Managerial jobs which is something that someone with no prior employment history, apart from a week work experience, will have a chance of getting. I have also been keeping an eye on my local job centre which I have applied for some jobs I found there, but still no luck.

I'm going to sign up for Job seekers allowance sometime in the next few days as I know they dont like people being on job seekers so they try to get you off it as quick as possible. I have avoided working in fast food restaurants as I would absolutely hate working in a place like that.

If any of you know of any jobs that someone with no prior employment can do in the Newcastle area, please let me know. Thanks.

Mate don't get down hearterned

I was out off work over the xmas and applied for about 140 jobs and had 1 interview.

Also sign up with as many agencices as possible. I'm with about 10 (i think) and apply on average for 5 jobs a month online.

Are you just looking a shops or are you willing to do anything, as the bars will be turning over a lot of staff in the next few months

In my experience, work opens the doors to more work - it might well be worth just getting yourself into 'something' to get started off. Take it from me 'any' job's bearable if you know it's only until you find something better!

I would absolutely hate working in a fast food place too, but if I had no other work I'd do it. Saves scrounging off others and, as Bri said, could lead to other things

Some of the best banter I ever had was working in the kitchen at McDonalds! Not as bad as you think!

Agreed, I started working at 15 in a Fast Food Chain, do i regret it, No? Why?

It was easy money if you half a brain, and thats not always a bad thing after all how difficult can a day be where ur making burgers!?

it showed employers I was determined to work, and not to go on JSA or not work.

To be honest I look back fondly on my days there....

Yeah I started at 16, easy money, as much hours as you want, not much jobs can offer that!

It was one of the things that came up in my interview for my current job, said it shows willingness to work and a good work ethic.

I started in McDonalds at 16 worked through the summer before college and went part time when I started college. its not the best job in the world but its money in your pocket at the end of the day.
From Mickey D's I worked part time in a bar while finishing college, then blagged my was into a 3 month contract, had to travel for it and stay in a B+B miles from home, dont think I made any money from it but got me on the ladder proper. From there managed to blag my way into a permananet position somewhere else on decent money, moved to Southampton got a flat yadda yadda.
anyway the point is just do something/anything. its better than being on the dole isnt it and can lead onto better things.
