I'm looking at visiting some family in LA and a friend in San Diego.
The thought crossed my mind to rent a Harley and do the trip. Anyone done it or any views? Some sites seem to suggest not even to think about it as security will be an issue??? |

I know my Old boss & a friend are going to do this, but same as you, they haven't done it yet.
If I find out anything, I'll let you know, but I'm sure others will help before me

Don't see security being an issue, it's a 120 mile ride, do your friends and rele's have a garage for the bike, s'pose your thinking of the coast road, pity they live so close together

One thing is you usually have to put down a fair sized deposit

It's a **** boring piece of road. The only reason to drive/ride it is to get to San Diego, which is a lovely city and infinitely nicer than L.A. If you can work out the logistics, do the L.A. to San Fransisco run up Highway 1. Wifey and I drove it in the other direction - took us about three nights and we weren't rushing - stopping in Travelodge type motels. They tended to have semi-secure parking so the bike should be as safe as a car would be. It is a beautiful stretch of road and there is a hilarious "English" theme pub in Monterey called the Mucky Duck, which was even holding a quiz night when we were there!

![]() But if you want to hire a Harley while you're over there (Fatboy all the way for me) then you've got near Malibu the Snake/Mulholland Highway and loads of winding mountain roads to explore. Thats what we'll be doing once we've seen all the bullsh!t that LA and Hollywood has to offer. Oh and if you're planning on going soon, July 24th Laguna Seca Moto GP.....maybe see you there ![]() Is it July yet? ![]()

I'm hoping to be able to hire a sports bike of some description for a day while I am over in LA at the end of July, supposed to be some incredible roads just out to the east.

Hi,
I rented a Harley when i was in Vegas last year. Rode to the Grand Canyon and back ![]() I got the bike from Eagle Rider in Vegas, but i know they have other shops around. They even do deals where you can "deliver" a bike from one shop to another for a fraction of the cost. If your lucky they might need bike/s delivered. Good luck and have fun! www.eaglerider.com |
