Default Tyres

Hey !

I now ridden my SV650 naked for 82 miles and the tyres feel like pooh. They are the original Dunlops and have done 4700 miles in 5 years. I'm loathe to junk them as there's loads of life left yet but may need to.

I usually put Bridgestones on my bikes but I put Maxxis Sports touring on my Triumph Thunderbird Sport and they where OK. Maybe it's just me and Dunlops not getting on or it could be that they are knackered after 5 years.

So what I need is a bit of advice. Do I junk 'em or not ? I'm thinking of Avon Storms as replacements.

Thanx, peeps.

new to me bike 1000 miles on the clock OEM tyres were right off and storms fitted. some like the dunlops and some don't. to me they always felt like i was riding on marbles, they never let go at any stage when i had my last bike but they never felt right. so i knew what they were like and they had to go.

besides there is nowt better than fresh boots

That's it, riding on marbles. Not a nice feeling. Thanx for the input.

Coming from a newbie, I think the Dunlops are just too hard. Now that I have the Avons for comparison, they feel a lot better and haven't slid in the rain as it happened all too often with the stock Dunlops. After 8000 miles the Dunlops still had plenty of tread left but I replaced them anyway.

The Avons are getting warm and soft even in the rain, something I never observed on the Dunlops. Road feedback is also better.

5 years is starting to push the life limit of the tyre anyways, so I would get a fresh set for this reason alone.

I had a chat with my spannerman today and he thinks that he can get me a pair of Avon Storm 2 for £225 fitted. I'll find out for definate on Monday. I've also asked for a quote for Maxxis sports touring and I'll get a quote for them on Monday. He did say that everyone that has the Avons has raved about them so I would imagine that I'll be getting a pair of those although the Maxxis are good.
