Default Anyone know anything about rodents or moles?

We have had some sort of rodent chew right through our main incoming fibre, in several places, meaning that we have had to splice in a section 125 metres long as a temporary repair.

The thing is we almost came face to face with the beast...it was moving underground and we all thought we saw a mole...unlikely in South London I thought but our usual pest control team attended site this morning and think it may actually be a mole rather than a rat, which is what we were expecting...but there are no molehills?

Anyone?

LOL - Here is the hole:

All the dirt from the hole was in the draw pit cover, and in there is where we saw the burrowing creature!

it is probably a rat, as im sure molehills are their air holes, rats also love to chew stuff, put a 240V cable down there and see what bites

Molehills are the debris of soil that they clean out from the tunnels and burrows.

I'd be more inclined to say rat, especially in London!

Moles dont have to leave hills at all, they have ruined my new turf by tunneling just below the surface, they have extreme claws though so could go through cable.

You need to see it.

Here is a comparison, Mole on the right, Ratty on the left.
