Default Mce insurance

Hi guys,

Just a little query on my part. I have recently cancelled my insurance policy with mce insurance. I sold my bike and therefore no longer needed the insurance. Having paid the premium upfront i was due a part refund for the months i was not being insured, minus the usual cancellation charges etc.

I rung and after 10 mins i got through to a person, lucky me, it usually takes a lot longer. The operator said she couldnt cancel my policy as she was new. Fair enough i said, can i have a call back, no problem she says and i leave it at that.

After 4 days with no call i rang back. I got through to an operator immediately as i was the first call of the day. Brilliant. She cancelled my policy and i was on my merry way.

A week passed and i had not received a confirmation of cancellation letter or email, more importantly i had not received my money back. No problem i thought, i will give them a little nudge.

Called today and spoke to customer service after 12 mins or so of waiting. I told him the situation and he said ok let me have a look. The worse case scenario for your refund will be that you get it in 3 months time sir. 3 MONTHS TIME, im sure you can appreciate what i was thinking. He said they could not issue me with my refund until the insurance company had refunded there account in upto 3 months time.

Im absolutely livid with this and would just like any input from you guys with suggestions on what to do next. Absolutely disgusted does not come close.

Any advice or similar experiences and actions would help.

cheers folks

Send the details to http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/ and that may get your money back sooner.

I just left them cause of a ridiculous renewal price. Had one shunt from the rear (totally non fault) and their claims department and legal team are a joke. Good old MCE!!!

Father in law had the same problem, only difference being he didn't get through to anyone for 25 minutes. When he did, they said they'd call him back. They never did. Can't remember all the details, but if he didn't cancel the policy before a certain date, he'd have to pay another months premium. Needless to say he went ballistic and told me to avoid.

Aye but thats not necessarily due to them(MCE).
With insurance they have this stupid idea that once you've been in an accident, even though not your fault, you are much more likely to have another one, so because you are higher risk, they bump up your renewal to cater for this scenario.
Smudge found this out when after 20 years of riding accident free, had a non fault accident......his premium went up, then not long after....was involved in another.

We are still in a dispute with MCE over getting a refund back for a policy I cancelled within the cooling off period. That was in April and I haven't seen a penny back since. They're all fine and dandy until you a) want to cancel anything or b) want to make a claim. Best of luck getting anywhere with them. All I can suggest is if you're going to correspond with them then do so in writing, send it recorded delivery and keep the receipts. You have to keep "nudging/shoving" them until they cough up, don't give up!

I looked into the option of cancelling my insurance because I was considering selling the bike and was told that I would owe them £55 for cancelling the policy early.

The cancellation fee will increase the longer you've had the policy. In my case I was mis-sold the policy and I cancelled within the 14 days so am entitled to getting their "admin fee" back too. They're squirmy beggars though!

Having a lot of problems with them myself too, bunch of retards, promising call backs, emails, e.t.c. Nothing. Had to wait 20 minutes each time to talk to someone!

NOT happy.

I had to make three phone calls before they got my policy correct. And then they charged me £30 to declare the £300 cat 1 alarm/immobiliser I had fitted as it was apparently "outside the cooling off period".

I'm probably going to change insurers come renewal time.

You are paying then for a service and it is their responsibility...
