First of All, congratulations.

I went to Uni in Bath, a lovely place to study and the library is awesome. If you have one, take your mountain bike, there is great riding on the back of the Campus.

There are some lovely roads for your Sv though and you are nice and close to head over our way for Bike Night on a Thursday in the summer.

Good luck and do your reading!

Unless you're absolutely loaded, you won't take your bike. Or wanna ride through winter where most of the weather is crappy, and your bike is stuck outside in the snow or rain.

Live it at home.

why? i don't mind the weather, the bike will be covered and locked when not in use and insurance don't want anymore money to move it there...

I got my Nickname Flakes at Uni because of the Mountain Biking.

(Bare in mind though I was at Uni in the late Nineties though.) Anyway, behind the Accommodation block was a Golf course and behind the Golf course was a quarry. That quarry had cliff jumps and super steep drops that would completely terrify most people. I jumped one and thought I was going to die. The result was a snapped fork stanchion, twisted fork crown and damaged stearer tube. Now that was a good ride.

A few days later and a new rigid fork fitted to my Orange Clockwork and I was blasting down through the woods by Browns Folly when it quickly became apparent I was out of control, this was also quickly followed by a flip, a cartwheel and bouncing off three trees and two rocks. My helmet was smashed and my bike was bent! I had a lovely stay in the RUH in Weston village (on the edge of Bath) for internal bleeding.

Armed with a new bike, I caught the train to Trowbridge and met up with a couple of friends before taking a day ride on Salisbury Plain. I can't recall how we got on the plain, but it did not take long. The riding was fantastic and the flinty ground made crashing a scary prospect. The scars on my legs are still visable.

Best bike shop in Bath is hard to say, when I was there a couple of years ago it was tied between AVC (at the back of Bath Spa Station) and John's Bikes in town. AVC was a Kona Dealer and John's was a Specialized dealer, I rode a Kona with Body geometry kit!.

For the SV, the A46 bath to Gloucester road is lovely with some really nice views, but does have a couple of speed cameras. There is also the Old A4 road from Bath to Chippenham which has some spectacular views too. I used to take the A4 for training rides on the Tandem and often wished for an engine when riding up Box Hill! Locally to Bath is Cheddar Gorge and Burrington Combe, both of these places are absolutely beautiful and by riding up one and through Velvet Bottom you can then ride down the other. That is a lovely trip out and well worth riding. Blagden Water Garden centre has a nice cafe for a mid ride stop and they also sell Tarantulas, the perfect Student pet!

For Bike Night in Weston Super Mare, you can come via Cheddar or you can take the dull way of M4/M5. Bike Night is running until the end of September this year and will hopefully start again next April. Here is a link.
