I assume you googled it and read the 10 main European issues they are wanting to bring in:
1)The Anti tampering Regulation: Specifically Article 18 which wants to stop all modifications to complete power train, from airbox to controlling the rear tyre profile. 2)Compulsory ABS. If we can’t stop this, we must get a switch so that we have an option in difficult conditions where ABS doesn’t function well. 3)Automatic headlights on- passing the blame for poor observation on to us. 4)OBD. On Board Diagnostics so that easy roadside checks can be made of our emissions and so that constant readouts of engine performance can be obtained. Expensive, complicated and with the threat, rather like a tacho, of identifying past riding style… 5)RMI. Repair and Maintenance Information. Rather than keeping it hidden and available for huge expense, there is a chance that manufacturers will be forced to provide ECU codes etc for a fee. What that fee is remains to be seen. 6)The very worrying article 52: “If systems, components or seperate technical units on a list in a delegated act to this regulation, have a dual use, for vehicles intended exclusively for racing on roads and for vehicles intended for use on public roads, they may not be sold or offered for sale to consumers” So if your K&N filter can fit a CBR race bike and a CBR road bike, the best way to police that, is to make it illegal to sell the filter in Europe. The Delegated Acts are the most scary thing, as they are the lists and details drawn up by the unelected and we won’t get to see what they are including until after the Regulation has been passed! 7)In solidarity with the French we need to be drawing attention to their recent government proposal to ban all bikes over 7 years old from an urban area and to make the wearing of day-glo/ reflective clothing compulsory. 8 )Full sleeve day-glo clothing for riders and passengers has been proposed in the Irish Parliament too. 9)All these issues lead to the same thing, that we must take the blame for the incompetence of other road users. And while the emergency stop has been removed as a compulsory element of the UK car driving test, we are jumping through hoops with ill-judged UK interpretations of EU licencing directives. 10)Another EU licencing Directive is on its way (3DLD) to step the bike licencing system still further and the DfT and DSA still haven’t sorted the consultation process, even though it is meant to be in law by now and enacted January 2013. Personally I think most of it is nonsense, just restricting bikers more and more, like not being able to change your air filter and having to have services done only by the manufacturers etc. |

Have a look in this thread, we're aware
![]() http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=167922&page=6 in particular, this post http://forums.sv650.org/showpost.php...9&postcount=59 BTW, I can assure you it isn't nonsense. Signing a petition is not going to get you anywhere. Have a look at your local Mag meeting spot for the 25th September ![]()

Damnit, I knew I had read it somewhere before, but I did a search on here and didn't see it.
Clearly my search skills are nonsense ![]() And the main reason I think it is nonsense is the no bikes over 7 years old being allowed in urban areas. That would mean to ride my newly purchased SV1000 I would have to put it in a van, drive out to the middle of nowhere and have a pootle about, so as I don't disturb anyone or whatever. Some things I agree with like daytime lights, and others kind of, like day-glow clothing. The diagnostics etc just strike me as a way for the police to pin something on ya randomly, as they are hardly going to initially stop you in worry of your emissions... I'd sign the petition if it was properly worded and laid out the case clearly for all to see instead of the vague statement contained therein.
However I shall make the effort to join the protest ride on 25th September. Last edited by garynortheast; 20-08-11 at 08:37 PM. |

Searching on here is not easy sometimes because of the titles people use. Issue is an important one though so the more threads about it the more will see it so good job

The petition isn't the best out there, although it seems to have had the more useful side-effect of getting people interested in the day of action coming up.
I am feeling slightly positive when looking at our current government with regards to bike issues - they've relaxed some parts of the new bike test, and are actively looking for ways to expand the number of sites that can run the test. Anyway - shameless plug time: http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=169948 |
