Are they worth the hassle? Has anybody ever had a moving off where they have 100% saved the bike. Down at the bike shop today and glanced at a few seriously damaged bikes and they seem to have saved nothing.

There is times where they have saved the bike, low speed spills especially.
But you bin it at speed and they can contribute to the damage. When I binned my sv, the way it landed would've missed the bungs as I had renthal bars on. Personally, I'm not gonna bother on my sprint. |

They are great when your bike slides, but they can get dug in and slip your bike

Mac you're funny.....you already own crash bungs!!
they're called 'Mac Bungs' and are sometimes found stuck to the sides of your bike containing luggage ![]() When Dave slid down the road, the motoslider saved a lot of damage, its still cracked the fairing and scuffed the bar end, but not as much damage as I'd have expected, the rear was saved by the Rentec rack scraping the tarmac. The Motoslider was ground a little, but will suffice for another day. I'm not entirely convinced that other brands of crash bungs are worth buying, as they bend in half and a lot more damage is done.

Low sided without them on a naked, if the handlebars werent bendy i think my tank would of escaped the scratching. They would have to stick out bloody far to protected the bars and clocks.
And like the lovely blonde one above says, they all have pretty mixed reviews. |

I admit they are not good on the Triumph as they fit on the front engine mount and on a hard impact damage the engine mounting.
It strikes me that they must act as a pivotal point and while the bike has frontal movement put the impact to the front but once the inertia has gone it will revert to the rear[Or the other way round?] "Mac Bungs" referred to are hard panniers and all that occurred there was another part of the bike got damaged so no real benefit. Just that very few manufacturers make the old fashioned bar protectors for front and rear that kept the body of the bike off the ground. Obviously this would not be cosmetically enhancing for some bikes but very practical on a naked or partially faired. As asked in the initial post have they ever prevented no damage or do the just protect the bit they are screwed on to as the faired bikes I looked at almost all the plastics were smashed or scrapped which seemed a waste of time and money to me. I've got R&Gs on the VRaptor. They came with the bike. Nice big and chunky things they are, never seen them that big in all my life.
Problem....totallly well and truely badly designed!!!!. R&G only make them for the nakid, although they are set in the same mounting place on the frame. Much as they protect the radiator on the right side(sat on the bike) for some reason they don't stick out as much on the left side....so are completely useless for crashing on that side totally. I can't actually see what else they would protect, as the indicator pods stick out a country mile, and would be smashed to smitherines even if the bungs weren't present. I think the handlebars would give more crash protection!! Moral of story in this case, would be don't crash, as every item on the list of damages would render the bike a write off. All parts for the VRap are now being discontinued from OE stock slowly, not that they were cheap in the first place. ![]()

They've saved my bike every time I've come off. One time it folded in to the fairing but still stopped more serious damage. Having fixed pegs helps too

100% yes.
Compare 2 virtually identical crashes I had, 45-50mph lowside from locking front wheel. Very silly. First one no bungs, took radiator neck clean off, bent rad in half. Obvious expense and "can't get home" annoyance. Second one with bungs, replaced brake lever there and then and went about my business.
