Default Testing Alternator and R/R?

Am i right in thinking I test the alternator output by unplugging it from the R/R and testing the voltage across the 3 pins (1&3, 2&3 and 1&2) this should be tested in AC (V~) on the multimeter and should be 60v-70v??

This is where I get confused, do i test the R/R/Battery in DC and it should be 14v+ at 5000rpm?

If any of you read my thread earlier in the week I broke down and the RAC diagnosed the R/R.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

test the rectifier in DC. mu manual says 13.5-15.5@5000 rpm.
it says alternator output 70vAC min @ 5000 rpm.

if u are using a meter with multiple voltage selectors, start high and come down the way. ie if you expect 60 - 70 v ac, start it on a 200v range.

Default Re: Testing Alternator and R/R - URGENT, Need to fix this weekend!

Replaced the R/R today, before replacing test said I was getting 70v+ from the alternator on 1&2, 1&3 and 2&3, so it looks like thats OK. The R/R was reading 11.9v constant.

After replacing the R/R i was getting the following

Lights on:
Idle 13.9v
5000rpm 13.2v

Lights off:
Idle 13.9v
5000rpm 13.6v

Is this the prob fixed? The manual says between 13.5 & 15.5v @ 5000rpm which i have, i'm just worried that its only just over so may break down again.

I dnt know if it makes any difference but i always ride with my lights on.

Development

Testing the output of the R/R on the red and black wire coming out shows the voltage going up to 14.2v at 5000rpm but at the battery it drops to from 13.9 to 13.3 what could cause this, i really need help.

I tried the wires direct form the battery to the R/R as mentioned in your thread but no change, would the fact the battery is not fully charged make a difference as I put it on charge and hour ago and its still charging! Will test again when fully charged.

I would do the checks again when you have a fully charged battery, just to be sure. I hate electrics aswell bud so your not alone.
