Howdo
Wired up my alarm earlier, no problems, all working as it should. But i have yet to wire up the Immobiliser and Remote start. ( before anyone tells me not to wire the remote start in please save yourself the bother, im not asking whether or not to do it, just asking for wiring help! ![]() What i need to locate is the Main igntion wire, The output from the starter switch, and the ignition disable wire. I have been looking at this diagram: ![]() from what i can see there, i would say that the ignition live is the Orange wire from the ignition switch? Green/Yellow from starter switch would be starter output wire? And ignition disable wire.... From my alarm instructions it says this: "Locate the ignition disable wire. this wire goes to ground when the key switch is turned off and is not earth when the key switch is turned on." Only wire i can see that goes to ground is the black and white? if anyone can confirm the above or correct me, it would be massively appreciated! Id rather get things 100% first time round than have to resolder wires i should never have cut! ![]() cheers! |

Assuming the 'main ignition wire' means the connection that will tell the alarm that the ignition is switched on, then yes, the orange from the switch is the one you need. Don't use it as the ignition cut - if you do the whole electrical system's current will pass through the alarm and the switch probably won't be able for the load.
Cutting the green/yellow wire will work as a starter disable, but if you look at the bundle of wires on the outside of the battery box on the right hand side you'll find a two pin connector with a short length of black wire looped back in it, (it's taped up so may not be immediately obvious - I'm guessing this is for a component not fitted to UK bikes, but I've no idea what), cutting the loop disables the starter - you can fit the immobiliser's starter cut switch to the snipped wires, very convenient. (Curvy only, not some non UK bikes). The next one is a problem, the instructions you've quoted refer to an ignition system the SV doesn't have, some ignition systems switch off by 'earthing' a connection so that current doesn't flow through the system but grounds out, you'll need to arrange the immobiliser switching so that setting the alarm cuts the current to the igniter. Most alarms have a two way immobiliser switch so that either requirement can be arranged, make to kill/break to kill, check the instructions on yours.

The main ignition wire is being used as part of the remote start function, so im assuming it will take 12v from battery into alarm, then pass this out and through the ignition wire so the bike can be started. Does that make sense to you?
![]() As for the green/yellow, its being used to send a current to the starter for remote start and will be joined into this wire. It is not being used as the immobiliser. The immobilser is supposed to work via this "ignition disable wire" that you say the SV doesnt have, which could present a problem to me! |

To use the remote start functionality, you will need to disable the clutch lever circuit. Personally I think remote start is a dangerous gimmick. As for immobilising, the easiest way is to insert a relay in the Orange main feed from the ignition and activate this relay from the alarm. The drawback is if you forget to engage the alarm, you are drawing power from the battery keeping the immobilising relay closed.

Clutch switch is disabled, that wasnt an issue, just getting the rest of it right thats doing me in! As far as clutch is concerned i have always held the clutch in when starting a bike anyway, so thats not a problem for me.
Remote start is a gimmick yes, but it has its uses. The second method my alarm manufacturer suggest if the bike cannot be immobilised via an ignition disable wire is to splice into the Ignition fuse output from the fusebox. But thinking about it, I have the alarm working, and can get the remote start working also, do i really need the immobiliser? I mean, when she is parked up when out, she will have the alarm and steering lock on. and when im home she will also be chained to the floor. And there really isnt any way on earth you would get the bike out from my front yard with the steering lock on, save from picking it up and taking it over the 4ft wall! |
