Matt Helmet Care - SV650.org

I've now got a helmet with a matte finish. I want to protect the finish and prevent it getting stained.
What would be the best way to do this, a polish or wax that is specifically designed for matt paintwork? or are there other products out there that will coat the helmet and make it easier to keep clean and stain free.

Don't go anywhere near it with waxes or polishes as it will change the surface and make it shiny. I have a caberg trip tova (will add pic if i find one) which is matte black white and red when its not stained green by bugs grrr. Anyway what i do when i get home and helmets manky i cover it for about 5-10 mins with a warm damp towel to loosen off the crud then wipe it over with a soft cloth and soapy water. Then dry it off with another dry soft cloth to stop streaks. HTH

Another thing, if you stop off for a butty or whatever remember that matte lids show up greasy finger prints (removed as above) more than gloss lids so its no use trying to pretend you hadn't stopped off for a burger

yeah i've been reading a lot on line on other forums who also say to use the warm water, cloth and soapy water technique.
As daft as it sounds, i was thinking about the sticky back plastic covering you can get applied to cars that protects the paintwork. It's a very thin and light film you can hardly notice on the bodywork. I am not sure on if it would apply to the helmet well or if it would make the finish gloss

I've not seen a Matt helmet finish stand up to everyday use well, they are ok for light use, but do tend to look scruffy if you aren't careful, Arai do a helmet protection system; I don't know whether that would work but they do sell it for the RX7 Corsair with is in matt black, so might be worth a look.

My last lid was matt white, and I did what Geo does to keep it clean. It was a fecker for being black bright in a short trip out. Spik and span again after a few minutes of water soaked kitchen roll, elbow grease and a bit of soap. Its not as if its hard to do.

I had the insides of the chin disintegrate, so bought a new white one...with gloss finish, I won't get a matt one again, they just like to look scruffy too often.

Cheers Mark, i think i'll order that and see how it goes.

My bike is a toy, and not used daily unless i'm off work and the weather is nice. I want to protect the helmet as much as i can until i am due to buy a new one
