Default Internet geniuses required - well compared to me.

All, I've got some issues on my laptop that's driving me nuts.

1. Facebook, using IE8 and Chrome - Facebook - says Security Certificate has expired. You can get into Facebook but the secure https:// is removed.
How do I restore Security Certificates?
a)on Facebook
b)on other sites (I'm sure I've seen this come up elsewhere)

2. Chrome seem to have gone haywire for me. It's OK once you have logged into a site, but any site where you have to log in and give a password it's really intermittent getting through this log in stage. It doesn't matter if the log in and password is saved or not.
a) It takes ages to display the log in screen
b) Once it is displayed you get a kind of limited display eg: the equivalent of eg: notepad text as opposed to word if you know what I mean. Simple layout, no graphics. SV forum seems OK, but ebay, hotmail, gmail is just not working as it did.

I've reloaded Chrome and IE8, AV scan shows no viruses, I have the latest MS updates installed. I haven't loaded anything new onto the laptop lately.

Anyone have any ideas I can try? Cheers all. Appreciated.

Have you gone into tools and deleted all cookies, browsing history, cache, evil monkeys etc? That can solve a lot of issues.

I had problems with Chrome recently. Filled in a load of forms online but when I hit the save button, nothing happened. Had to switch to IE and redo them all. The log-in screen also took it's time loading when using Chrome. Going to stick to Firefox as that seems to be more stable for me.

Sorry this isn't much help, but your not the only one having problems with Chrome.

Have you tried upgrading to IE9?

Hmmm. Sorry buddy. Only other thought is that perhaps you installed a dodgy plugin on Chrome without realising it. I recently got shafted by a facebook video virus which caused Chrome to install a weird plugin. check Options>Extensions in case something dodgy got installed maybe.

I dont know the cause but have had problems similar before, normally due to slow internet. I know a program that fixes alot of problems indeed, tis very good if you can be bothered.
Try download advanced system care in google. The free one is ok but doesnt fix as many problems. If you gonna bother download it, i can tell you how to get the pro one for free too, is pretty simple with no downloadin nasty folders full of viruses

"Idle" ... I had something like this happen before Christmas , somebody else on here reported the same problems over the same weekend . By the Monday it had all mysteriously corrected itself without any fiddling .

Well there's a turn up for the book. I actually fixed something myself. I was looking at the certificate errors on Facebook and went into each file that made up the certificate. I noticed that the expiry date of the certificate was 12th July 2012. Then I remembered that recently some of the post dates on this site sometimes seemed screwed up. Then I looked at my system clock and saw that the clock was set to 16th July 2012.

I set the clock right, and hey presto, everything is working sweet again. Every single issue seems to have gone.

I am now a techy. Yep a techy I am. Not a geek though.
