Default Motorcycle ksi's down, cyclists ksi's up.

Been announced today that motorcycle Ksi figures are down 4% for the last year but cyclists Ksi's have increased by 8%.

Good news for motorcyclists I guess

Is this down to a big increase in cycle use so the figures are relative to the amount of more users?
Inexperienced riders taking to the road without a clue how to ride on the road?

Thoughts?

No idea, you could speculate that with the state of the economy less people are able to afford motorcycling, rising fuel costs etc.

Good to see that the numbers are coming down, just hope it's not because the number of bikers is falling.

Theres been a big push to persuade more people to cycle over the last few years with it being portrayed as a very pc thing to do so there must have been an increase in numbers. In London there is the Boris bike scheme, and I guess there are similar things elsewhere.Must all result in more casualties.

Why do they even publish these figures when there is no relativity to them? They should publish them along with an estimation of the number of miles travelled in the period by that form of transport, then give an average number of accidents per 1000 miles. That's the only way you can say whether something has got more or less dangerous since last year.

KSI figures make motorcycles look like the invention of the devil already, but the typical annual mileage of a bike is something like 4000, and a car something like 20,000, so you need to multiply the bike KSI figures by 5 to get a relative figure, then take into account the number of cars on the road vs number of bikes. Miles travelled is the only way to do it.

Disclaimer: the maths may not be bob on, but the principal IMO is valid.

Good to see it's an overall downward trend since 2002 though, but still they need to plot the number of miles travelled too.

That suggests to me there needs to be a 74 step licence gaining process for cycles with power limits at all stages. That would help.

<Cynic>Thoughts probably going around government: "Now we've got all these people cycling, how can we raise revenue from them?"

It's all down to Boris Bikes. Most of the people riding them shouldn't be allowed on anything more than a kids Merry-go-round. Just ask Zig.

Having been knocked off my bike this morning by an impatient driver I nearly thought that I would become another statistic.

It would be interesting to know how many of the increasing number of cycle incidents are based in London. On the whole, in Birmingham, there are very few people cycling and we have quite decent cycle lanes etc (in some places).
