I personally hate not having a temp sensor as when the warning light goes on then its too late obviously and you'll never know if its not getting up to temp properly.
So was thinking one of these... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/28mm-Alloy...item43a7f85251 plus a cheap gauge (probably digital as they look ![]() Anyone done this? Also is there anywhere else a sensor could be screwed in eg any blanking plugs that could be removed? Could put a sensor in the oil drain hole for oil temp too. Just point the catch tank overflow over clocks, when it boils you know you cooked it. It will boil before you damage anything.
Why add weight, complexity and electrical crap that's hard to find that's really weatherproof.

You could try find a marine gauge, but the price goes up and the choice goes down.

Why would you want to do this? I have rideen over 70k on my SV and its never overheated once even in London on a very hot summers day.

Agree with Viney, overheating is not normally a problem. Fitting a voltmeter to monitor the charging system would be more usefull.

I'm just saying it would be nice to have advanced warning and that the thermostat might be stuck open/closed at some point...quite a few other bikes have them so why not sv's.

When the light comes on, stop and let it cool down (it will probably boil over) but it's not the end of the world.

The Pointy has a water temperature digital read out on the LCD display so you could change to one of these......
