Hi All,
So I was trying to fit rear hugger on my sv650s 09 today and tried loosening all the screws/bolts on the existing chain guard but one screw, the one closest to left foot rest would not budge. Tried lubricating it and leaving it over night and tried to loosen it in the morning but still no luck. Tried different screw drivers and socket set too but the bloody thing wold not move. Do you guys have any suggestions? Thanks. |

How about an impact driver

you could try a smack with a hammer, sometimes they just need a shock to unsettle any corrosion that has set in.
other than that, you could whack out the rear wheel and try a pair of pliers on the other side of the bolt. |

I Had the same issue with the same bolt a few weeks ago. Soaked it in WD40 but in the end I had to hacksaw a groove in to the head of the nut and the used a flat head screw driver with a gentle tap of a hammer.
After much swearing, finally got it out so new bolt news washers and some cooper grease and it's all back on. Quote:

Hi all,
Thanks for the replies...i have already tried the hammer trick to no avail. Will try the impact screw driver and last resort will be your suggestion StitchSV...By the way...what screw did you put on to replace the existing one? Thanks. |

Under no circumstances use an impact driver on that bolt - you were lucky you didn't snap the lug off the swingarm hitting it with a hammer. You luck will run out if you repeatedly larrup the little bent bit of metal welded onto the swingarm.
If the screw is now goosed drill or cut the head off, - just the head - remove the chainguard and use grips or similar on the remaining section. But whatever you do stop hitting it.

I'd ordered some replacement bolts from a Suzuki dealer. The replacement has a Philips head where's one existing ones were allan key heads. The replacement did feel more solid.
They are only a few pence from the dealer. I had rounded the Allan bolt trying to get it to budge hence hence the hacksaw. Its not as brutal as it sounds. Good luck. |

Hi All,
The impact screw driver did the trick no problem. I didn't even have to put that much force onto it. Thanks everyone. |
