Default Reg/ Rec failure obvious symptoms?

Evening all

It looks like my bike may have another used a consumable part its Reg Rec.
Whats the obvious signs that its on the way out (before I tear the bike down and start testing)

Also prempting the failure whats bikes run MOSFET units that are simple to plug and play

Thanks in advance
Andy

Honda CBR (i forget the year) regulators are mosfet. There are several very good guides dotted around detailing how to make the swap.

One easy symptom may be that your head lights increase in brightness when you rev. Get a multimeter on the battery and see what the voltage is when at idle and when revving.

Make sure you don''t let your battery go dry, your battery (if your reg has lunched its self) is currently acting as a very good buffer, a dud reg can output circa 70v at high RPM, your battery drags this down to acceptable levels in the short term. A friend managed to destroy every electrical component on his bike when his battery went dry.

My SV's reg rec's just been swapped for a CBR600RR one, seems to be doing the job nicely. I wasn't able to have grips on highest setting while headlight was on.

Well actually I've nicked it off YC's SV (I stripped the bike's back end myself #proud face#) and let him have the ZZR1400 one i got for £58 off fleabay, they're all around that price unfortunately...

Apparently you can have any of these - and I know this because I wrote it down from mouth of YC other night

'06 onwards YAM FJR
'07 onwards YAM R1
Any year ZZR1400 (FH010)
'06 onwards CBR600RR (FH00
I think that code is to make sure it's not the Shunt model...correct me if that ain't right please, it was a few nights ago when I was told and I've slept since

and many more besides.
