Default Suspension change questions.

Hey Everyone

I'm going to be doing the suspension upgrade on my pointy soon so I'm just doing some forward planning to make sure I have everything in place before I start.

I've managed to get hold of a 2006 ZX10r Shock in good condition as this was one that was suited to my weight and also required no cutting of anything.

I plan to use this as a guide for the shock swap:
http://www.svrider.com/forum/showthread.php?t=80387

I'm also going to be replacing the fork springs and oil for something more suited to my weight.

So here's where I start having questions:
1: Is it worth putting my rear shock in now and do the forks in about month or do both at the same time?
2: I know the shock will increase the ride height a bit, will I need longer dog bones?
3: Linear or progressive for the fork springs? I know this is a bit of a can of worms but I'm confused as to which to choose. Most of my riding is commuting (about 20 miles most of it stop/start), but I do ride hard and I do a long (~250 miles) ride at least once a month. I'll also upgrade the oil to something a bit thicker
4: Should I put emulators in the forks? Will there be a significant difference and which emulators are the best for the price?

Thanks

EDIT:
I found this link (After posting, typical) http://forums.sv650.org/archive/index.php/t-139039.html so I guess I'll go for correctly setup linear springs

As YC says, the cheap £40 (ish) Debrix emulators from the US absolutely transforms the handling so that it's almost like a different bike. You will just need to machine up some spaces but do a search on here for 'Debrix' on the org and you will find lotsa pictures and advice

May as well put the shock on as soon as. That way you get the opportunity to feel the difference in the rear before changing the front. If you change them both at once you'll be trying to get used to two new things in one go.

Just my opinion.

Here's a link to the emulators and the spacer needed to fit them into the pointy forks

Thanks for the advice guys. I had seen those Debrix valves in another post and the price compared to the race-tech/k-tech ones is much better.
I'll do some more searching on the machining of the spacers. Man I wish I had a lathe...and knew how to use it...

I'd love to do the GSXR conversion but I think it'll work out way too expensive for me at this point. If it was just the forks then I could probably stretch a bit, but it's then a wheel, and then the speedo thing and it'll end up being £500 at which point my Wife will kill me

I can do spacers and damper rods on exchange basis, or send me your complete forks.

Excellent, When you say "Exchange basis" do you need me to send you my goodies first? Or could you post out and then I could send you the originals? I can't be without my bike for too long so hoping to do the forks over a weekend. Also...How much?

I wouldn't let that put you off. Providing your original kit is in reasonable condition you can sell it for what you will pay for the GSXR stuff. Thanks to Minitwins racing SV front ends are still in demand where GSXR bits are two a penny.... When you add the cost of upgrading the SV forks into the equation it's a no brainer, especially if you can twiddle the spanners yourself.
