Idle Banter For non SV and non bike related chat (and the odd bit of humour - but if any post isn't suitable it'll get deleted real quick).

Hi All,

I am new member and just wanted to say hi. I have been visiting the forum for around 2 years on and off as that is roughly when I wanted to get a motorbike licence and I looked at the bikes I wanted to get one day and the SV seemed to tick all of the right boxes. However my now wife wasn't so sure about bikes and the potential dangers and basically tried to put me off along with family. However 2 years later and with no sign of me giving up, I booked my test with CamRider Cambrige (100% recommend these guys, awesome).

I passed my test this February and due to the impending arrival of my first child, I have been told I can't get on a bike for a little while longer!!! However I plan to get a bike in the next few months and start riding and learning.

So a bit about me I am 27, live in Melton Mowbray and work as a sales exec so lots of car miles which is annoying on a long sunny day when bikes are out! Kind of feel like I "know" a lot of people on here due to watching and reading the forum for so long but have not wanted to introduce myself as I have no bike and only recently got my license! Would have felt a bit like a fraud!

Now as I am wanting a bike in the next few months, I will put a little "wanted" add here too just in case people are thinking of getting rid of their SV in the coming months. I am looking for a specific bike so here goes:
Yellow or Black Curvey SV with lower fairings
Not much more than 30k miles
At least some MOT, Tax also preferred but not essential. Will consider no MOT bikes also
Consumables all ok although don't mind some that may need replacing soon
Decent mechanical condition

If there is anything else people need to know then please ask. Would obviously prefer with 100 miles of Melton but would travel anywhere for the "right" bike. Money is waiting and will pay upto £1500 for a mint condition bike but around £1000 would be better.

Sorry for the long post but I like to let people know a bit about me

Thanks Rich

P.S. The user name is my PSN name

Welcome rich

Be sure to say hi in the madlanders section, being one of the most active sections (all thanks to me lol) there will always be something being planned.

There will be plenty of camping trips too

A few are from your way so we have a few rides that way too.

Phil

Thanks Phil, been watching the Madlandes forum and your trip to France seemed good. Not sure if I will get "permission" to head out camping for a bit due to baby but def something I will be looking at.

One great thing about Melton is the roads! Every road pretty much that leads from Melton is an awesome biking road so can't wait to get on my bike and learn them from a biking perspective. Will be fun.

Thanks

Rich

Welcome on board, ignore the haters, and buy your bike!

Bikes are not dangerous at all - one of mine has been sitting in the garage, looking dirty, getting rusty, being neglected, and hasn't been ridden for months now, despite the poor mental state it must be in, it is still very docile, sits there patiently on it's sidestand, and it hasn't hurt anybody. I'm pretty sure it'll sit there forever without hurting anybody too, I trust my labrador less. The other one's been ridden quite a lot, and whilst it has annoyed it's owner by cocking it's leg and peeing on the deck of ferry, it hasn't hurt anybody either.

Other drivers on the road can be dangerous, but there is lots of training out there you can do which really helps mitigate this risk a lot, stops you riding into them, and helps you predict when they are going to drive into you, so you can get out of the way.

Then of course there's the idiot that climbs on the nice docile harmless motorbike, starts the ignition, and rides it away - You know, the guy that connects the handlebars to the seat? - He can be really dangerous, but that's up to him to decide.
