Default Slipped disc - Disceptomy

Hi all, Question. Has anybody and a slipped disc removed or cut ? I had my L5 cut 3 weeks ago after 10 months of sciatica pains. Trouble is just before the op the sciatica had nearly gone, although it was easily aggravated, but now it has returned. I believe it is due to swelling ? Has anybody had similar issues and most importantly will it affect riding.

Yes I had it done a few years back. Are you getting physio? Mine was complicated as my sciatic nerve had been compressed for a year before surgery, so I still get twinges now, and when I do, I rest, I would be careful this soon after surgery.

I have been given some basic exercises to do which I have been doing some of the time probably not as much as I should. I have started driving again, 3 weeks after the surgery, but should I ride the bike ? . I have a sick note until 26th July but, while I feel ok; sciatica is much like it was before the op, should I be considering returning to work even on a part time basis?

However hard it is, do your exercises even though they are a bore. If you aren't seeing your surgeon again for a while then have a chat to your physio. They should be able to advise you on what you should or shouldn't be doing at each stage. I've not had anything done like that but post surgery inflammation can cause all sorts of pain, as I'm discovering after my foot op last year. It's frustrating as after all that hassle of having an op you just want to feel better than before, but keep smiling!
