Default Handlebar Spacers - Pointy

Ok. So I am going to try these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISA...m=180949150373

How do I know if the existing wires and cables will be long enough to raise the handlebars? It looks like I do not have much/any give in the brake cables... but I only want to raise them a couple of centimeters.

Also, the bolts on the brackets seem to have caps on them. I know they are bolts with allen key heads underneath because only 3 of the 4 have caps on. Do these caps just prise off with a knife?

Thanks

The little plastic chrome caps just lever off.

How do you know if the cables and hoses are long enough? You won't 'til you try to fit everything, that said if you're keeping the original bars they will probably be long enough - if you pay careful attention to their routing, and you absolutely absolutely must make sure that you fully extend the front suspension and check the front brake hose has a little slack in it - if it 's under even the slightest tension it's too short.

FWIW I don't like those spacers, buy some handlebars that are the shape/height you like, the cost will be similar.

Thanks. Why don't you like them, just aesthetics, or you think they don't work as well?

I'm quite concerned about your comment on the brake hose. looking at it, I think it would be under tension with anything higher. I would probably rather put up with a less comfortable postion than risk messing it up.

I hadn't thought about changing the handelbars. I figured that would be beyond my limited skills. I guess that I would have the same problem with the brake hose with those.

A set of custom brake hoses don't cost that much. I bought the parts to make my own lines and it cost me £40, it was a bit fiddly, but it was worth it. Bleeding the brake was simple (unlike the six pots on the other halfs ZRX) and feel after was much improved due to using good quality braided line.

Changing the handle bar is a simple job and just requires unbolting the bits. Everything comes off easily and a squirt of hair spray under left hand grip makes it easy to slide off and fit again on the new bar. Time taken can be as short as half an hour for a bar swap. Drilling the new bar for the mounting points must be done carefully, or you can just cut out the tabs on the switch gear and use a dab of glue if you are really against drilling.

However, if you are not confident as a mechanic, asking a local Org member to help might be useful?

Good luck

so... I put the spacers on. Hoses and cables fitted ok with a bit of re-reouting and bracket bending. From riding around the block, the riding position seems much better for me (more upright).

I'll see how I get on with them for a few weeks then maybe look at some handlebars then.

Dabbling is addictive....

Cheers
