Default Modding SV650 (1999)?

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

Just want to give you a brief rundown of the situation I am in.

(Skip the next 3 paragraphs to get straight to my question)

I am a previous rider of a '99 sv650, and have recently bought an intruder which i used primarily for commuting. With a comfortable seated position and F.I. for immediate start-up, it is the ideal commuter bike for me.

The reason i bought the intruder is because the engine on my SV had a heart-attack (causes unknown), and I refused to look any further into it as the cost for repair FAR exceeded the cost of the bike. Because of tax breaks, etc... in Belgium, it was simply cheaper to buy a brand new bike than part with my hard earned cash to fix the ol' SV.

HOWEVER:

The intruder is beautiful for group touring, and cruising around the countryside in a big group, but in the smaller sports groups it falls behind too much, and cornering isn't the greatest perk, as it cannot bank as deeply as a sports bike, therefore, i fall behind too much on corners to keep up.

(Background explaination over)

So here is my situation:

I want to replace the engine on the SV, so that I can use it an run it again, however, i have a few questions;

Is there any way to get farings for the SV650n type without breaking the bank?

Can any other Suzuki bike parts be used in place of the SV (1999 model) parts to add a more unique appearance?

What other mods (something not too advanced) are relatively easy to achieve on the SV650?

'Is there any way to get farings for the SV650n type without breaking the bank?' I'd watch the forums mate, i just put up some old lowers i had lying about (cheap plug i know ;]). The fairing you want will come up sooner or later, just got to be fast

Most motorcycles regardless of manufacture are on the whole pretty much interchangeable with regards to parts, as long as they are from a similarly designed machine, all you will need is some spacers, or to tap out some new threads if needed.

First up,
Changing an engine is not hard, if that's what's needed.

Other than that your questions are a bit too vauge for any direct advice. People fit wider rear wheels to get a 180 section tyre on there, people fit different suspension units, forks, brakes, controls, lights.

Plenty of parts fit, some look nice to me, some don't but that's a personal opinion, and I'm sure the owners of each bike like what they've done.

I think you might be best off working out how you want it to look, and then seeing if people can suggest how you could do that, rather than asking people for parts that fit?

Thanks a lot of the responses so far guys, and thanks Jambo, you kinda leaned a lot onto my question (about the possibility of other bike parts fitting), from a purely cosmetic point of view, i wanted to change the outer shell of the bike, engine works and the rest i am not bothered in changing, what I am interested in doing is replacing (for example) the front light of the bike with the front end of a gsx, or (another example) the rear end of the bike with the rear end of a Z750r.

What I was wanting to know really, is whether this is an easy(ish) process, or whether it takes a lot of time, money and/or semi-skilled work to do, like resizing, welding etc...
