Buying advice - age vs mileage?

Hi guys, new to the forum.

I am looking at an SV650 as my first bike. I have my eye on one at present. Its a 2004 model, which is a little older than I was hoping for.. But it has very low mileage.

What are your thoughts on this? I am tempted! I was initially looking for a 2006-2008 model..

Not always a good thing. You can only go on the condition of a bike. If its low mileage but sat out in the rain half its life it'll be a dog. Even garaged but not used could mean the brake fluids never been changed, inside the tanks gone rusty, the chain links have seized up and the tyres gone brittle.

Go see the bike with a man who knows and judge on the condition . If its been serviced annually regardless of mileage, has all the old MOT to prove the mileage, and when it has been stored its been stored properly somewhere dry, then it could be a bargain.

My Daytona was 4 yrs old when I bought it and only 3600 miles. Always garaged but I have had one or two little issues with it such as seized fork adjusters, seized eccentric adjuster on the rear swingarm, knackered CO2 sensor, all things that happen through lack of use! Still it was given a full dealer service annually even though one year it only did 600 miles, so fix those little issues and I got a good as new litre sportsbike for 3 grand.
