Thumbs down Attempted Theft - bike dead

hi there, some scrotes tried to steal my bike on Friday night but were interrupted by a neighbour who heard the alarm and shouted at them ( 2 x hooded teenagers apparently)

They pushed the bike over and there is some/minimal damage to the right hand side and once i'd got it back up it started (spluttered and coughed a bit) and turned over for a while no problem.

left the bike over night for the fingerprint guys to come out (didnt get any but got a trainer/shoe print) and when i tried to start the bike again yesterday it was dead / nothing... almost as if the battery has been removed...

my question then, has something been damaged even though it started on Saturday? there doesnt seem to be any glaringly obvious wires not connected or cut. Could the battery be damaged/leaked?

Any ideas as to where to look or what the problem could be? Not really wanting to go through insurance at this stage unless it is absolutely necessary/major issue.

thanks guys xx

Oh heck, not another one! So sorry to hear this but at least they were stopped from escaping with it.

When you started it up on the night, you didn't leave your light on or something in shock?

So the lights are still working but nothing happens when you press the starter?

If so, it could be one of the safety switches - I'd look at the clutch switch first as they have damaged the switch, wiring or the clutch lever itself.

I'm not sure what bike you've got, but the clutch switch is usually a little two prong plug underneath the clutch lever perch. If you bridge the contacts on the connector (not on the lever) and it starts, then you've found the culprit.

EDIT: As you're probably a bit stressed, check the silly things too - kill switch on and bike in neutral (we've all done it).

It's an SV1000 IIRC, same clutch switch as SV

hi tam, nope its dead... completely dead... no lights, no nothing. the electronic display doesnt even come on... its an SV1000s

i checked the clutch switch and its connected. bike was in neutral, put it in first and tried, back to neutral. checked kill switch - turned off and on - still dead.

could they possbily have damaged the ignition barrel and it started by luck just after the incident first time? dont know if i mentioned, but i did spray WD40 on/in the ignition but that just made the key turn easier

Main fuse and battery terminals ok? Main fuse is under seat under a green cover, there should be a spare in there.

Has the battery come loose from being tipped over? Terminals ok?

Was going to say tip over sensor, til you said nothing works.

ok, had seat off and the wires too the battery for the cigarette lighter (satnav connection) had come loose / off the battery terminal. have now completely removed from both terminals - would one loose connection have drained battery?

i cannot see that the two fuses are blown (wouldnt know how to tell tbh )
