Hi folks,
I'm trying wire up my Curvy SV so I can hook up my kit to. After reading a few posts on here (thanks guys) I decided it was best to wire it using a relay and not directly to the battery. I followed the instructions on Bolty and hooked up a Maplins cigarette socket to test. When I turn on the ignition, I could actually hear the relay clicking on, however I wasn't getting any juice on the cigarette lighter (or at least it's not powering it on). I've switched the wires from the cig lighter round even though I'm sure I got it the first time but still no workie. Can anyone throw some advise my way? NOTE: If you're going to tell me about a multimeter, kindly give a little explanation or point me to a link on how to use it ![]() ![]() |

Dose it have a fuse in the end of the cig lighter. Most do.... Can you unscrew the top ??

ouch, whoever wrote that guide wants nailing to a tree.
Never use choc blocks for automotive wiring. Bibio makes something much more suitable; http://www.svbits.co.uk/ |

depends on what relay you got. some are normally open and some are normally closed then you have change over, make and break, double make and break, twin make and break.
pins 85&86 are coil and think of that as an automatic light switch which turns on the contacts. pin 30 is + feed in. then depending on what type of relay the rest are out. the pins have a clue in their title. 87a is Always on. pin 87b is Bridged the other live out to pin 87 which is feed out Last edited by Bibio; 07-01-13 at 12:21 AM. |

the MK1 has no relay or fuses and i fear that they are trying to use some sort of live to get power from. problem with that is there is a potential of burning out the bike loom.
the MK2 is indeed a nice bit of kit but only has 1 fuse to feed all acc's. i'm not saying buy mine but personally i think it's a better design as it was specifically designed to fit the SV or indeed and Suzuki motorcycle. each feed on my gizmo is fused so if a fuse blows you still have power to the other feeds. it's entirely up to you which way you go and if you need help with the components you already have then i'm here to help. by the sounds of it you have got a changeover relay so one pin marked 87a or 87 will be live depending on if the relay coil is energized or not. pin 87a will be live when the coil is at rest (no power to the coil) and pin 87 will be live when the coil is energized (power to the coil) coil pins are 85 & 86 and does not matter which way round the +/- to make it safe feed main battery power to pin 87 and main power out to pin 30. so: pin 85 = trigger + (side light feed or brake light feed) pin 86 = trigger - (goes to battery - terminal or chop-block in your case then feeding back to battery -) pin 87 = Main feed from battery + terminal) pin 30 = to device you want power to (chop block + in your case) pin 87a remains unconnected. |
