Got a job recently and been thinking about budget. I am very privileged compared to some people (not trying to brag) but I have a sainsburys within 10 minute walk from where I work.
What do most people have for their lunch and what is their average daily/weekly spend? I been trying to stay around daily spend of £3, but being sainsburys allows me to buy for more then one day i can achieve this. Although microwave meals are starting to kill me. I also sit in front of a desk which enables me to snack which is great when your trying to put on weight. - so what do you eat? - how do you keep food interesting? - what is your budget? - what would you ideally do for lunch? - is it healthy? (i go through about 5 doughnuts a week at this rate, and i weight 7 and 1/2 stone!!!!) Last edited by kiggles; 15-04-13 at 07:25 PM. |

The previous night's tea usually sorts us both out for lunch. Or a sandwich/bagel, or a jacket spud. A big vat of soup lasts a bit and you can freeze portions to take out the night before you need them. Same applies to chilli, casserole etc, all nice with a bit of bread. It's easily done and shouldn't take much time, particularly if you make a bit more for tea and eat it the next day too with a bit of something else.

I used to spend about £4 a day on food. For the last couple of years I now take a lunch box. Sandwiches, crisps, chocolate bar, fruit etc. Drinks usually involve a brew or cordial. Saves me a fortune buying food in bulk and preparing at home.

We have a staff canteen so for £2 I get a main which could be lasagne, garlic bread and veg or chicken pie with potatoes and veg or steak or salmon or curry plus cold meats and salads. Choice of 3 puddings a day such as trifle, crumble, cheesecake, profiteroles or lemon tart. All the food is made on site each day by the chefs.
But if I ate there more than twice a month I'd be the size of a whale so instead I grab a low fat home made sandwich or a bowl of Special K at my desk and work through lunch. We have a free gym too but I never use that either.
