Default Baaaaaaahhhhhh! knocked off :(

Hi All,

Some guy decided to execute a right turn at an intersection without looking as I was coming through, and my recently de-wintered SV is now unrideable

I managed to reduce my speed to about 10mph before somersaulting and landing on the ground.

Just wondered if anyone had any ideas, at that sort of speed (and a head on impact), would the forks likely be bent? I don't want to scrap my lovely SV.

Yes, probably bent if it was enough to make you go *rse over tit. Forks will not write the bike off (the insurance company probably will though)

Hope you are alright, as to damage, it's all down to the angle of impact, the easiest way to tell is to run your finger down the stanchion (chrome tube bit) from the lower yoke to the fork seal, any rippling and generally it's beyond straightening, but if it is just a little bent someone like http://www.motoliner.com/ will be able to fix it for you, failing that you can buy new uppers and just replace those parts, this will be of help; in that case.

Cheers Mark.

SV forks do bend fairly easily

Get the insurance company to buy you a nice new SV and buy the old one back rfebuild and you have a nice track bike

Also check the headstock but they are fairly robust

Firstly, glad you're ok.

Second, the damage has been covered quite in depth but I will share with you that a pair of forks fetch for about £150 on ebay, usually includes the lower clamp too.

You can then remove and strip your own forks selling off the good condition parts for quite fair money (eg the fork lowers can fetch £50 for the pair.
I dare say your springs will be £10 etc so you can whittle back down that £150 expense to well under the £100 marker.
Get the driver to shake hands on £600 cash (no doubt less than his insurance excess and premium hike) then get yourself a gsxr front end

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm alright, I landed pretty hard on my lower back which isn't all that helpful, but the hospital gave me some pretty decent painkillers which is taking the edge off - and at least nothing is broken and I'm still alive! I was quite lucky as there was an ambulance waiting about 10m from where I ended up!

I have a feeling they will want to write it off. I'll see how it pans out
