Default I almost dropped my bike..........

I've read lots of posts on here where people say stuff like "you'll drop your bike sooner or later; especially at low speed".

Here's what happened, I was filtering through standstill traffic at about 5 - 7mph on the Holloway Road section of the A1 in London; a driver on the other side was trying to cut in quickly into the side road and turned right in front of me.

Normally, I use the back brake for very slow filtering however, I reacted too quickly and hit the front brakes which caused the bike to stop abruptly.
I didn't manage to put my foot down on time so next thing I knew, the bike was inches away from the tarmac and I was struggling get the bike up.

While I was about to let go of the bike, I suddenly felt the bike become a bit lighter.
It turned out that the driver of the car behind me (a London taxi) had jumped down from his car to my rescue.
With his help, I was able to get the bike up and I was on my way...........no scratch on the bike and none on me either

Initially, I didn't realise that was the taxi driver.
When my bike was back upright, I turned round to apologise to the taxi driver for causing a delay to his journey, only to notice there wasn't any driver behind the wheel.......the guy that helped me said "that's my taxi" with a smile on his face.

Hoping more car drivers would be that helpful and considerate.

Wow.
That story made me feel warm inside!

I dropped my bike today, first time.
Stupidly I decided to turn around in a little gravel 'lay by' which was on a slight slope. As I was maneuvering backwards, I lost my balance and she fell to the left.
I managed to hold her up for a good 5 seconds, but there was no chance of me overcoming the gradient of the hill.
I let her down as gently as I could.

There's a slight scratch to the left mirror, and the crash bobbin has a few scars but that's what it's there for I guess. So glad there's no real damage.
I was more embarrassed than anything else.

Sorry to hear you dropped her today.

While reading your account, I was worried your bike was going to slide down the hill......good thing that didn't happen

I dropped my cb500 just wheeling it on my drive, on the dipped kerb the balance changed and it went over. That taught me to sit on it whilst manouvering it around.

Mine once cut out as I was turning right into a bike garage forecourt on a 60mph road. I caught it with the fairing hovering about an inch off the ground on the wrong side of the road.

I just about managed to pull it back up - nothing like a HGV thundering towards you to focus the mind. Ironically was going to the garage to get the intermittent cut-out investigated (turned out to be regrec failure) so at least it performed on cue.

Lost the front on my CB500 in the ice at slow speed. Then I lost the rear in a car park with 2 - 3 inches of fresh snow. (It was at a gradient)

Now I have matching scars on both sides of the engine crash bars

Nice to hear that someone actually went out of their way to help you before you dropped it.
