More ebay dilemmas!

Having an issue with someone, just after a sanity check really. They paid by paypal so I'll get shafted anyways but want others' views on this sort of scenario:
I Sold a car part on ebay as I had an electrical problem and replaced this particular particular part as part of tracing it but this did not coprrect the fault and it was traced elsewhere so believed the part (and still do) to be good.
For this reason (and just people generally being DIY idiots with car parts) I listed the item at 99p with no guarantees on it working. Anooyingly I didn't reinforce that as much as I normally do as I'd not had a bad experience in a while "YOU ARE POTENTIALLY BIDDING ON A PAPERWEIGHT" for example.

Here's the description

This is an auction for a part from a car, believed to be in good working order as new one was bought and fitted to fix an issue , this didn't turn out to be the cause, the problem was found elsewhere. Sold as seen so grab a bargain starting at 99p


The guy's now disputing the the purchase and has emailed me saying it worked for 3 weeks and has now failed completely. I think it's more likely he had an intermittent fault all along elsewhere but anyway. Thoughts anyone?

I've resigned myself to the fact I'll get shafted for the money, especially annoyed as I spent a tenner on postage (only charged £5) and sent him a courteous email explaining I'd done it special delivery so he can fit it before the bank holiday

If it worked for 3 weeks then failed, what are you supposed to do? Give him a parts and labour guarantee for twelve months?

Bet paypal still take the cash off me.

Let him send it at cost then and refund the pennies and relist as possibly fooked

it worked didn't it? its a second hand car part that worked and then broke, a breakers wouldn't refund it so why should you.

The part worked, it broke in his possession = his problem.

"Dear sir,
You bought and paid for a car part which had been previously bought by myself to isolate and identify a possible problem. On installing the part I was able to determine that the fault with my vehicle was not related to the part you purchased nor the one it was bought to replace. I then re-installed my original part and sold the newly purchased one on in my auction.
You successfully won that auction and thus the part, on receiving the part you have installed it and admitted that it is functional. A matter of weeks later you've now stated the part has become faulty, I am not a supplier of guaranteed parts I am a seller of a used item. That part was sold as seen through the auction and upon receipt is was found functional. I cannot feasibly predict the shelf life or integrity of a part which I've had no baring on the installation or use of since leaving my possession.

For this reason I am unwilling to return payment for the item, I am sympathetic to your frustrations but would perhaps suggest a different fault with your own vehicle may well be causing your *part name* to fail. The repeatably damaged *part name* may well be a symptom and not the cause, just as it was with myself.
