Default Identify this electrical part - Curvy.

Hi there all,

Couldn't seem to find a forum to introduce myself so I'll do it here. Been riding my 01 SV650 for the last two months and absolutely loving the bike. So glad it chose it over the CB600F I was also considering. Nothing beats the way a twin pulls...so much fun!!! And bonus is we're just coming out of winter and riding conditions are beautiful here in sunny Queensland, Aust.

Whilst here i have a question...

I had the headlight out of my 01 650 last night and noticed a black taped bundle jammed into the back of the housing. I unwrapped it and found this...

The wires coming of this pcb appear to go into the instrument pod.

Does anybody know what this pcb is for and why it might be bundled up and stuffed into the headlight housing?

Cheers

Looks like something that controls the lights/indicators/horn on ignition on etc...

Well, I'm pretty sure it's not standard.

The brown line is the side light live, green is right hand indicator, black with white chaser would be earth.

If you check exactly what wires are going in (it's a little hard to see on this picture) we may be able to have a good guess.

Following this comment I withdraw my assertion it's not standard, I'd not realised the cabling was inside the headlight and I've not had an "N" headlight apart so wouldn't know if it's supposed to have that in there. Certainly the clock wiring is very different.

Wires are still the same colours though for European models.

Default Hi and what's this?

I'm pretty sure that its not normally supposed to be in the headlight as it looks like a home done job, and there's no indication of it in the Clymer worship manual. I believe that this bike was originally a N model so I don't think it's a conversion thing. I might have to pull apart the instruments and have a squibs in there to see where the wires go.

from its shape its been lifted from another vehicle of some sort.
I see a zenor and low value high watt resistor, suggesting stabilization, charge or siren drive type of thing.
Whats unusual about the bike - does it have any tricks its not supposed to?

Fook knows, definitely not standard.

I'd just disconnect it and see if anything stops working TBH...
