Default Theft from lorries

How much theft goes on from parked lorries?
I often see lorries parked in a lay-by with their rear doors open (they're empty - presumably to deter theft, tho it obviously means that if the doors are closed it's worth nicking!), but is it a regular occurrence?

Yes. The idea of leaving the door open is to show what's in there. this reduces the cost from the curtains being torn for them to see inside. Generally a rigid side trailer will have electronic locks on to prevent them being broken into.
Theft is huge from parked up lorries and they'll take anything. An old customer of mine had half a 40ft trailers worth of washing machines stolen whilst on a 45 minute kip!

I don't see how they wouldn't notice that going on!

More to the point, people passing by! That's what amazes me the most is the do nothing attitude of others seeing this kind of thing happen

A lot of curtain siders will run with the sheets back and the whole lot ratchet strapped to the back.
The PTS yard down here does it with the unladen ones

Big business abroad. Usually pump a sleeping gas in to the cab then remove the whole trailer with goods inside!!!

What makes you think they don't notice. Half the time they are either in on it, or decide it's not in their best interests to get out of the cab on a dark night and take on unknown thieves in the middle of nowhere....
