Hi Guys,
I posted a message a while ago re trading in my SV650s 07 for a 2010 due to colour and ABS (and less ks I guess). At that point I took the advice to let it go and continued using it. It got to 60,000 but last week a car ran into me which resulted in the bike being wrecked - and me requiring ligament surgery on both knees. As I wait for surgery early Jan, I am looking at what I can do about my ride. I loved the SV and got used to it , servicing etc. Unfort they are no longer made so all I can find is 2nd hands and demos. Even these are rare here (QLD, Australia). So... I found a 'new' old stock 800k onboard, black, ABS with full warranty from a Suzi dealer. Unfortunately I cannot go check it personally as it is in a far away city. They can bring it over for $250 (not a lot IMO). So all is great, I could get what i wanted from the beginning - ie black color and ABS... BUT... the ad said 250km, now they say 800k onboard. Even then I said so what... BUT then (lol) a friend said 'mate, people abuse these demos, it could / would have been broken in badly'... So that kinda ruined my feel-good ![]() Not sure what Ill get from insurance (comprehensive) for a 07 60,000k sv but probably all Ill need extra is $1,000-$2,500 to get this one. Checking the private ads etc, for this one the price is great and warranty is 24 mts (I assume Suzuki dealerships would make good on it in my city as well?). But researching more, people say probs may arise after the 2 yrs due to the possible abuse it could have had in the 800ks ... AFAIK, when *I* went to test ride a bike, the dealer in my city gave me an escort lol so they were very careful - but who knows the other people did...? I will try to query the rep on the phone but.. you know, they can tell me whatever they want.. What is your opinion?? I am kinda torn - go on this or search for alternatives where there are almost none ? I want 2 cyls (not4!) around 600cc and cannot spend a lot.. The Gladius does not look good to me - engine improvements (how important after all? water based oil cooler etc ? not sure) etc but it is naked and I need space for two bags at rear - my poor SV650s did all this beautifully. The Kawasaki ER6f - (looks cool or ugly, depends on your taste, Glad is same) all say it compares worse to the SV... I am kinda cornered here - Thanks! |

It wouldnt worry me personally. Any issues from a fast break in probably wouldnt rear their head for a long while, and some people even argue quick break ins are the correct way to do it. If its your only real choice and its the model you want I wouldnt let the fact it was a demo stop you. Dump the oil as soon as you get it though.

Yeah the only worry are those 800ks - well and that I cannot hear it running or take it for a test ride (I coudl not do that anyway now lol).... Of course ill do the oil and filter (used to do it at 5,000 + filter for the regular change on mine, semi synthetic MOTUL). But I suppose the cooling, and brakes will also need change and probably the battery will be 50% dead? On the old one never needed to replace the batt in 5 yrs / 60,000 (ok Im getting sad again). Thanks for your thoughts, yes I know the hard break-in line of thought, in fact weith my crashed SV I did not even know there was a break-in period and I did long rides with constant speed (well thats where I live!). No probs with teh engine, just a bit noisy - was told chain tensioner perhaps but never any real probs. The SV engine is really good. I intend to keep this bike for as long as possible once I get the extras on it again
