Default How far would you travel for a freebie?

for a freebie?

Hey up folks - just doing a bit of research in prep for the London Bike Show that's coming up and could do to pick your brains please.

Like November's Motorcycle Live, we'll be putting up a series of challenges, with trips away thrown in as prizes.

Now... Logic says that the majority of show-go'ers will be from around London & the South East, so with that in mind it doesn't make too much sense (to me, at least) to put up prizes at venues based in the Highlands, for example.

So - to give me a feel for this, how far would you guys be willing to ride to cash in a free night or two's stay away somewhere nice?

10 miles? 100 miles? 300 miles?

Cheers!

JM

I think I'd go out into Norfolk, down to to Brighton or along the coast as far as probably Weymouth if it was just a one or 2 night freebie - there's the bit in the middle out Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire way but the roads don't really justify a trip there whereas I enjoy a weekend in the New Forest or up into the flat bit of East Anglia where there are nice beaches between rides.

Bear in mind though that I'm based in Chelmsford but lots of people attending the bike show will be coming in by train along my line out as far as Ipswich, Norwich etc.

Ideal - thanks LPH, that's pretty much exactly what I'm looking for.

We're a little bit spoiled up here, as a 3/4 hour ride could (easily) see us cover 250-300 miles, but I know things are a bit different down yonder.

Thanks - very keen to get a few opinions on this, as I'm putting the final touches to the gubbins today.

On Wednesday I expect to spent 3 - 4 hours just getting to work by public transport thanks to the tube strike! That's 36 miles.

Depends what the freebie is. If its a couple of nights away in a far away place then, I would add a couple more and make a longer time of it.

I'm surprised Rictus hasn't said it already...haven't you got two motorcycles in the garage?!

I know you find the journey is quicker and easier normally by public transport, but for 2 days I'd have thought it was the sensible thing to do?

Anyway, I'd probably travel somewhere around 100 miles for a free night or two.

Not wishing to go too much off topic, I'm at a drinks reception both Tuesday and Wednesday night finishing late and I'm one of the beer tasters! No biking after that.

I'd say this would also be about what I would do too.

I'd have to agree. 100 miles seems appropriate.
