I have an iPad 1 which struggles with a lot of current web pages. It crashes out of safari with annoying regularity when the pages have lots of content. I have tried other browsers, but it's down to the pad having very little memory.
I also have an HP mini laptop. I've reset it to factory condition, but it too is struggling with large content pages. Chrome and Firefox are as slow as IE whatever it is. I can get £90 for the iPad straight away, but I rather like it. The HP is worthless in monetary terms. What I want is a way of browsing the web on either device that will be fast and stable. I'm happy to root the iPad if necessary and as for the HP, anything goes. Suggestions please. I don't need anything other than web browsing on this stuff. Not bothered about apps on the iPad, not bothered about anything other than fast, stable web access. I have Sky broadband clocking at about 6mbps. Pete ![]() Oh, and please keep it simple folks, I'm just a wooden top after all!

Are you running ios7 Pete?
My wife's iPad 3rd gen kicks her out of apps randomly, fb is a major cause, my iPhone 4s does it too, so bloody annoying, my iPhone 3GS never did it once so it's a software conflict IMO not a memory issue. |

Pet, somewhere in the settings (don't have my device in front of me), you can clear all website data down (cookies etc). Try that. I'm not particularly hopeful as cookies should only be available to the site where they came from but there might be other downloaded bits which are causing problems.
You say the device doesn't have much memory but how much is that? It must have (I think) at least 8GB which should be enough to load all but the richest web sites - I doubt that's the problem. You could also try a factory reset (backup first) and before restoring see if that works. |

It,s the first version,so stuck on iOS 5. No way to update, but it's behaved worse and worse with each update!
I'll have a look at that link for Linux, just hope I can use a USB stick 'cos the machine has no optical disk. Pete ![]()

I also upgraded the RAM at the same time too, and that didn't seem to do much for it

I can see four versions, the Mint Xfce appears to meet the requirements, "Xfce is a lightweight desktop environment which aims to be fast and low on system resources, while still being visually appealing and user friendly. This edition features all the improvements from the latest Linux Mint release on top of an Xfce 4.10 desktop." Um... This one? Pete ![]()
