Hello,
New to all of this, 2005 SV650S Recently had my front discs & Pads replaced because old ones failed MOT (Warped somehow without any shake shudder or issue) & since then my new breaks are soft, took it back and had them re-bled the system.. still soft, bled & replaced fluid myself.. a bit better but still soft. No leaks from anywhere that I can see - prior to them being replaced my front breaks were as they should be firm and forceful, I cant quite figure out what the garage fitting new disks/pads has done to cause this issue? ![]() Note as well the left outside disc has about 1cm space on outer edge where pad doesn't seem to be meeting properly (inside is though?) I have done about 1.2K miles since they were replaced. Any help/ideas would be much appreciated, Robert. ![]() Last edited by robmossv650s; 13-02-14 at 11:39 AM. Reason: Include bike details. |

If there's still bedding in to be done the lever will not be firm - the pad/disc interface will be flexing causing the lost motion in the system.
When the pads are fully bedded in across the whole disc, only then will flex in the system be gone allowing you to determine if there's a problem hydraulically, but unless everyone who has thus far bled it has made the same error, (which seems unlikely),I doubt there will be.

I would have thought so, but if you have noted an area where the disc isn't be touched then presumably not.
Have you checked the pads are fitted correctly? Also check the pad slides correctly, if either caliper is not moving correctly it will cause a problem.

are the hoses expanding (old ones can do this ive been told). or master cylinder seals.

I would say that your caliper pistons are partially seized , especially your left side upper one .
Only way to be sure would be to remove the calipers one at a time and operate the brake and watch to see if both pistons push out from the calipers evenly ( most likely they wont ) . Pistons would need to be removed , cleaned and re-inserted with new piston and dust seals and the whole system re-bled . May as well upgreade to braided hoses as well if you don't have them already as they do make a big difference over the old hard rubber origionals . Also check that the caliper slide bracket is free to slide as its not unheard of for them to seize up as well which wont help either . |

Eh, why the upper one especially? Both pistons bear on the pad - either could be at fault.
They almost never do. Even calipers in perfect order rarely advance all pistons evenly, whichever is freest is the one that moves first - doesn't mean the other/s are stuck.

If you paid to have it done, get in touch with who did it and tell them all about the problem. |
